It is not sinister, it is a shaman mantle. And nobody asked him to pull the hood down, and he does not talk much because usually there is not much to be said. And about the pain.. yeah, totally true, but Adrien had been the psycho lately trying to kill everything that moves. Next time we find him he will be using a necklace made of squirrel heads.

Isn't the sequel supposed to take place a few centuries in the future? I don't think Adrien will still be alive by then; setting aside the fact that he's not a mage, surely he'll eventually piss off someone enough to get killed

Well it's heavily implied all but stated to occur in one of the DLC missions, but the scenario described doesn't actually appear in the main plot
