"I'll have to speak with my captain about it. He's dropped me here while he checks out a derelict. Is there anything I may able to do in town while waiting for him to come and do some actual negotiation?"

Trevor shrugs.

"But I'm thinking it's more about how much work is done and how hard that work is and I can't give an estimate if I don't know what're doin'." at the end there Trevor's accent slips somewhat back into a specific Spacer drawl. His eyes remain on the guard, pretending not to look past him towards the magistrate.

Ask about taking out the pirates.

Aster heads on over to the console...But it won't turn on. Probably because the ship is out of power. Barring that, she begins to root around beneath the console, eventually pulling aside a series of wires to reveal a button, almost hidden beneath the thing. This is the emergency switch for the ship's life support and power systems. Only the kami know if they'll still work, but the party will soon be privy to that information.
Rerouting the wires, and then hitting the necessary switches and buttons, Aster quickly finishes rooting about.
A low thrum moves through the walls of the creaking vessel, and the lights, in the bridge at least, suddenly flicker on before dying.
A moment later, everybody feels a lot heavier, and the floating debris- body, chair, blood and all- come crashing to the ground. The ship begins to rock, rhythmically, as debris in other sections begin to follow suit.

The lights flicker on, and then off, again. Dim, hardly receiving the power necessary to stay on for more than a few seconds, but they're on, at least. In the staccato lighting, near-useless as it is, the group is provided with a startling conclusion: The blood which has just splattered the floor is a brown-red in hue, but some, if not all, of the blood which splatters the damaged envirosuit of the corpse is a deep, dark black.

Aster lands on her back with a grunt as gravity reasserts itself, rolling onto her side to pull herself out by the side of the console, then pushing herself up onto her feet and pretending to dust off her shoulders with a self-satisfied smirk on her face.

"Fuck yeah. Sweet, sweet gravity. Damn, what would y'people do with... -out... me..." The engineer begins bragging into her helmet's radio, trailing off as her eyes reach the formerly floating corpse-- and its accompanying pool of oily black blood. Her own blood rapidly drains from her face, and she stumbles back, grabbing the rewired console behind her for support. Her mouth works, but either her communicator has stopped working or no words are coming out.

Kara walks quickly back to the bridge.

"What the hell was that? do you WANT to bring every damn thing in this hulk down on top of us? We just lost the element of surprise!"

She then catches sight of the black blood.

"That seems familiar.....i seem to remember the instructors at the Imperial academy talking about something like this whilst showing us pictures and holotapes.... Anyway, this derelict is a curiosity. The turrets and other armaments seem to be loaded. The ammo stores also seem to be empty. Whatever happened here, it was violent and judging by that corpse, it wasn't pirates....."

Shifting her weight to the other foot, she motions to Aster. "I think its best if we take a look at the cargo bay, power core and engines, to at least stabilize the lights and life support. Cmon Aster, with me."

Escort Aster to the Engines/Power Core/Cargo bay to try and stabilize the ships systems and look for loot.

The redhead stands in a shocked stupor for several minutes, her face ashen and jaw slack with horror, not reacting to any conversation, nor to Kara's arrival or admonishments. When the soldier motions for her to follow, however, Aster seems to break out of her trance, and, trembling slightly, begins to shake her head rapidly. She retorts, making a sign across her chest with one hand, then with the other, "Are y'rustin' crazy?! What in th'name a'the Ancestors makes you think that's in any way, shape, or form a good idea? Do y'not see the same devilsigns that I do?"

Shaking her head, she adds as she turns to head to the exit, "Y'know what? Fuck it, I'm gettin' outta this pit, right now. No fucking Exponire-build's worth crossin' this threshold."

Kara looks on and sighs. Why cant anyone ever do things the easy way? she wonders.

Slowly walking towards Aster, Kara initiates what she believes to be a calming conversation.

"Aster," Kara calls "You dont have to worry about any supposed devils or whatever it is you superstitious vent-rats believe in. Nothing can get you whilst Jarrod and I are here, so calm down and come with me"

Stealing another glance at the black blood covered corpse, she admitted to herself it made her uncomfortable. However, Asters reaction was far too over the top. Hard to believe superstition is still rife in this day and age Kara muttered to herself.

Just in case she has to use her last resort, Kara slowly maneuvers into a position in which she could grab and subdue Aster if need be.

are people taking part in this little RP segment (or in fact this game) or has it died a slow painful, taint induced death?

Akito folds his hands and spares his engineer a glance to size her up. She had been with the ship before Akito had purchased it, and had stayed on in spite of the new captains dabbling in various unsightly arts. Perhaps her love of her station could be used as leverage to keep engineer in her place.

The captain gazes at the ceiling and speaks in a cold tone to nobody in particular. "It would be a pity if anybody had to be fired for cowardice here. I would have to dump them off at that backwater mining outpost. It could be months or years before a ship seeking crew or taking passengers comes along. It would be doubly sad if somebody chickened out and had to be fired while two perfectly competent guards are about."

Akito then kneels over the corpse and takes a good look at both it and the blood spatter to see if anything screams 'supernatural activity.'

Aster narrows her eyes at Kara and crosses her arms, about to deliver a scathing retort to the soldier's calling her concerns about the corpse's nature 'superstitious', but hesitates when she finds herself being assaulted from two angles at once, a flicker of doubt crossing her face. After a few moments, she straightens, arms still crossed, her expression hardening into anger and frustration as she growls, more toward Kara than toward the captain, oddly enough,

"Y'fuckin' crazy bastards, thinkin' guns and swords will do any good against th'lords a'Jigoku. Cappy should know better, he's th'one dealin' with magic and spirits and Ancestors know what else. And Lira too." She tacks the last sentence on almost as an afterthought, casting a brief look toward the medic, before glaring at Kara again.

In spite of her stance, however, Aster suddenly flinches back slightly, uncrossing her arms to bring her hand up and try to rub at her temples, only to meet the clear polyprop of her envirosuit helmet. She mutters something under her breath incomprehensible to the suit's communicator, before sighing and slumping over. Trudging past Akito and rudely shouldering the soldier aside, she mutters irritatedly, "Rustin'- ugh, now I'm startin' t'get a migraine. Fuck it, let's get this over with. If I get killed by demons I'm goin' t'bite, scratch, and claw my way out a'Jigoku just so I can have the pleasure a'hauntin' your ass, Fastbursts. And have fun tryin' to figure out how to run that shoddy fourth-rate bunch a'metal and its fossilized engine without me."

Hiding a grin, Kara silently follows Aster down to the engines/life support station to search for parts/get systems running etc.

"Somebody come with me, let's go check out some of the rooms. This single file stuff isn't getting us very far and we haven't seen anything particularly deadly yet, save for a little bio-contaminent floating about in the bridge.
