Sounds like the only result from that is a ton of idealism.

Nah, basically everything got shot down, and our resolutions were non-binding and we knew it.

Shitty textbooks are nothing new. Although, since everything's bigger in Texas, these are exceptionally shitty textbooks.

The worst part about shitty Texas textbooks is mass production that makes many of them turn up in other states as well (due to how many books Texas buys, California is the only other competitor).

It's pretty insane when you look at the list of people Texas got to "review" the textbooks. Only 3 out of 140 were faculty at colleges in Texas, and of the rest most were likely to be Tea Party political activists rather than people with teaching degrees.

One on the "history experts" was a retired car salesman who decided to become a priest, whilst scores of academics, educators and experts were turned away from the panel application process.

New news, 9 year old kills shooting range instructor with UZI. Apparently the range lets 8 year olds fire full auto weapons. Sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Should there be some regulations about minimum age for these things? After all this has probably screwed that kid up for life, offering 8 year olds UZI lessons sounds highly unethical. Lucky (for her) that it wasn't her parents she killed.

Oh well the kid wanted to do it, and the parents were cool with it, which makes it ok to offer "anything goes" services right? Not quite, I can think of plenty of things that some kid would willingly do that would be unethical to allow them to do.

That's not news, it happened a month ago.

And we've already had a big shitfest about it, if I remember right.

2 week old story, sorry. I missed it first time, because I was trying to minimize wasted time on the web while doing my assignments.

Though, internet has taken short attention span to new retarded levels if something from 2 weeks ago is taboo to discuss because it's "history now"

It happened a month ago, we already discussed it at length, and regardless, if it's a month old it can't be news. Nobody said anything about history. Jerk.

The fact that the Internet moves past things much more quickly than real life is also not news.

Well, it's mostly that no one here want to discuss it again. But actually, waiting for a month to discuss the news make all kind of sense. We would always discuss things on the basis on full information for one thing.
