Mussolini didn't really believe in a "master race". He did however, believe in master culture. Specifically that Italian culture was superior to the various cultures that they conquered and should therefore assimilate and acculturate conquered peoples (much as the Romans did).

In that regard, he'd have common cause with the global spread of things like McDonald's, Nike and Coca-Cola. We're acculturating the world not at the barrel of a gun but a barrel of buns:P

I'd rather have that than a barrels of puns.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Heyo!

Spoiler: Heeeyo! (click to show/hide)

I am curious to hear what you fellows think of this Group, known as the "Liberal Gun Club". They're essentially a sort of NRA-style organisation for Liberals/Progressives/Moderates/Socialists that oppose gun control.

Here is a news article on the matter.

Quote from: ABC News
Gun owner and Second Amendment advocate Marlene Hoeber isn't your typical member of the National Rifle Association. In fact, she isn't a member of the NRA at all.

The Oakland, Calif., laboratory equipment mechanic regularly visits firing ranges, where, along with other members of her gun club, she shoots a variety of weapons. "Guns are fun to play with," she says. She even makes her own ammunition.

She has no use, however, for the NRA's conservative political agenda. By her own description, Hoeber is a feisty, liberal, transgender, tattooed, queer, activist feminist.

"NRA: Practice Range" app released for ages 12 and up

She belongs instead to another gun advocacy group entirely--The Liberal Gun Club--whose membership ranges, she says, "from socialists, to anarchists who can quote Marx, to Reagan Democrats."

Its mission, she says, is to provide "a place for gun owners to talk to other owners about neat gun stuff, without having to hear how the president is a Muslim-usurper-socialist running a false-flag operation."

They don't have very many members (1,200 nationally) but they seem to be becoming a bit more popular in the gun-owning community.

There's also Pink Pistols, another small group who are trying to encourage the LGBT community to buy more guns to protect themselves against hate crimes. They seem to run shooting lessons too.

Huh. I'm not really obsessed with guns enough to join a group, but I, for one, am a liberal who is also somewhat fond of firearms. Just this existing pleases me somewhat.

I have a friend who is a liberal vegan attorney in California. She's also a skilled target shooter.
I also knew a burned-out hippie witch (not a Wiccan, as she would be quick to correct) who owned a Filipino-made assault rifle because "the neighbors might not be so friendly if they found out".

I don't think there's anything inherently anti-gun about being a liberal. And I applaud their efforts to counter the perception that gun owners *must* adopt the red-meat stances of the NRA. Looking at their page, I wouldn't say they're opposed to *all* gun control, and certainly appear more moderate than the NRA (a pretty easy task). They're not calling for arming teachers, for instance.

I think there's a gun thread on B12 with quite a few non-conservative participants.

True, this is more "anti-taking-away-guns" and less "make-sure-everyone-and-their-grandma-has-a-gun" like the NRA is these days.

It's useful to note that even the LCS (the utter paragon of political stereotypes bar none) is against outright banning guns. It's more that the NRA is nuts, and a lot of the members who might disagree on various issues (polls have come out showing very substantial support for universal background checks among NRA members) are tied to it by a powerful, overriding, irrational fear. And it kills me to simply go and say something like that because of how much of a cop-out it sounds like, but it's true.

For those who don't know, Clive Bundy of the Bundy ranch saga suddenly became a pariah after comments he made about slavery where made public. They are pretty bad if I do say so myself.

A few days old but the thread missed it; in a turn of events that surprises absolutely nobody the same rancher who stole from the government and denied their authority to confiscate his herds is also really, really racist.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/24/us/politics/rancher-proudly-breaks-the-law-becoming-a-hero-in-the-west.html

Quote
“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he asked. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”

Ironically this rancher is exactly the sort of person who would have had his stuff confiscated by the government and got sold as a slave back in ancient times.

I think there is a time and a place where the militias can make their stand. The militia conflict that's been bubbling away for a while (perhaps a few decades even) needs to come to a head at some point, it's just unfortunate for them that they picked now and at the Bundy Ranch because now they're going to be associated with racism.

From my own limited experience of the pro-gun militia leaning people, racism never really goes that much further above the usual sort associated with Conservative groups. More often than not they're more than happy to welcome African Americans into their midst. It's only really in expressly white supremacist militias that there are serious problems and those militias are the minority. I'm not saying militiamen aren't 9.9 times out of 10 right wing and very reactionary, I'm just saying they're not innately Klansmen.

Of course given the strong tendency for some Liberal groups in the USA to just lump the militia activists in with racists and Klansmen no matter what, me saying that probably won't do much good.

Yeah them liberals sure are all alike and prejudiced.

I reaaaaaally don't think you understand the militia movement in the US.  Just for starters you are talking about something waaaaay smaller then the gun rights movement.  Heck, I think there are more neo-nazis in Germany then militia members in the US.

Yeah them liberals sure are all alike and prejudiced.

I'm not sure what you mean by that, Mainiac.

You'll notice I said "some" Liberals, not all. I'm not accusing anyone here but articles like this from the Guardian with a headline reading:

Quote
Rancher's racist comments have highlighted party's baffling association with extremists after senators forced to back off

just implies that they're all just "racist extremists" together (extremism=racism apparently) when I know for a fact that there's prominent militiamen in that group who are not like that. They're extremists, of course, but they don't have to be racist to be extreme. I'm sure if you go around asking people informally their views on immigration or civil rights they would be no worse than the bog standard Tea Party types.

If you're referring to anything else I've said previously I ask you to point it out to me because I don't believe I've expressed those sentiments before.

Quote
I reaaaaaally don't think you understand the militia movement in the US.

If you can see where I've gone wrong with my pronouncements, by all means correct me.
