There's no way Obama will effectively surrender the primary legislative achievement of his Presidency to the Tea Party, and the polls are already blaming them, so it will mean a continuing shutdown and possible default unless they flinch at the last moment themselves.

Much better to invest in platinum (not only an extremely -and increasingly- important industrial metal, but it lacks the artifical price bubble that gold currently has), copper, aluminum, and steel (the three most important industrial metals by a huge margin) than gold.

For once, I can agree with my congresscritter. Yes, it does contribute to the debt, but it's underwritten not by taxpayer, but by revenue. There is no taxpayer liability for it.

Besides, who in their right mind would buy it?

They very well might not have been on the same side at all. Communism didn't stop Russia and China from splitting, and it probably wouldn't have stopped Germany either. Besides, it is doubtful they would have actually established a communist state, what with it being a coalition.

Yeah, the french left wing coalition didn't turned France communist either, around 1936, and the communists were part of the coalition.

And on the other hand, if it weren't for Hitlers rabid and crippling hate of communists, they might have very well allied, Nazis and Commies. Even WITH Hitler's stupidity, they did manage to split Poland between the two of them.
