There are no winners. The point is to get as many as possible, not simply more. There is no first or second place.

It leads to two possible play styles based off what your personal opinion of victory is:

1) "I win" put in zero every round, never change
2) "Everyone wins" put in max every round, never change

Either way, doesn't make for very exciting gameplay.  No real influence on other players or need for subtlety.

True. It's difficult to get subtle gameplay without a miraculous system, like Mafia, and still have simple rules.

Each turn, everyone can put any or all of their points into a communal pool. This pool is then doubled and divided evenly among everyone, regardless of how much they contributed.

Emphasis mine! I'm disappointed in every single one of you. Welcome to the Tragedy of the Commons.

That beings said I'd like to In with 100 points.

But, since you put in 100, that 100 will turn into 200, which will be split between everyone. Since there's more than 2 people, you will get less than 100 points, coming out with fewer points than you contributed.

True, but my point being if a bunch of free-riders [society] would contribute equally to this then we'd all win exponentially! If there are 5 players, each puts in 100, that's 500 x 2 = 1000 / 5 = 200. Do that over and over agian with the maximum bet and we win a lot faster than if you hippies only contribute nothing. Get off you lazy asses and contribute points. Free riding benefits you in the short run but in the long run we'd have MANY more points than if you louts say "I don't want to help the people."

No I'd call it a failure since while a few may work out of enlightened self interest the others are selfish.

But at the current time me putting in all my points would be a bad move. If others change their mind about the amount of points they are to give, I will as well, but at the current time it is a bad move for me to do so.

I'd make a move, but I'm not sure there's an incentive to actually participate.
