Why do caltrops make taking 10 or 20 impossible for everything?

Welp. We know what to do.
Everyone has a broom, right?
I have firebreath. (8d6/2)-10=avg. 4 damage to each caltrop, after object stuff, for a Hardness 10 metal. Does that help?

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Well, it seems your fire breath, while damaging, just doesn't last long enough to melt them, even after repeated rapid use. All you really accomplish is shifting them around a little, and blackening them a lot.. However, you did manage to blast enough of them aside to create a small space for a couple people to stand in the room at least.
...
I wasn't actually serious.

Also, I meant to say that you can't take 10 or 20 on search checks, though other skills will have to be done on a case-by-case basis until you clear them out.
Ah.

Take silk rope. Moving carefully(+15 to balance), let rope drag along floor. One of our people who can fly can take the other end, and carefully pull/sweep them into a corner.

Interesting note: It seems both the north and the east doors are msde of metal. This is important because...

Renark gingerly steps out into the room, rope in hand, with a cunning plan to sweep up the caltrops involving a rope and one of the fliers in the party. However, as soon as you step into the room, you hit a pressure plate with activates a spell! A ray lashes out, hitting you...and suddenly Renark finds himself pulled off his feet and slamming into the east door, sticking to the door with terrific force!

It seems you've been afflicted with a powerful magnetic field that violently attracts metal objects to you, or in this case you to the metal doors in this room. You take 1d6 damage per 5ft movement, and since this is a 30x30 room, you just moved 30 ft and ate 28 damage

... The room is full of caltrops. Caltrops are metal. GWG, do you think you might be able to help here?

So glad you pointed that out! Why yes, I was aware that caltrops were metal when designing this series of traps :P

Speaking of which, on the one hand, you don't have to worry about the caltrops anymore as they are all piled on one side of the room. One the other hand, they've turned Renark into a dwarf-shaped pincushion as they leap at him with the force of a cannon, dealing another 20 damage

-2 health. Did I really just get magnetized at a higher speed than falling, while wearing very little metal for my weight?

Basically. It was a spell that didn't require metal armor on you to work, it just magnetized your entire body as if were metal :P

I'm sorry I broke rule #1, guys. I'll try to not let it happen again.

I want that spell. Wall of Iron plus Magnetize Object. :)

"Thank you, lad. Needed that...bit of irony, me calling you lot out for setting off traps, then me being hurt worst by 'em."

Hmmm, ok its a 6th level spell that is a ray with a range of medium(100ft/10ft per 2 levels) and a duration of 1 round/5 levels that mangetizes an object or person with an extreme magnetic pull(that has a radius of 100ft), attracting metal objects to them(or attracting them to a stationary metal object). The maximum damage that objects hitting the target can do is 5d6, though if the spell causes the person hit by it to move instead it deals falling damage as if that person fell the distance the person moves until they strike the object they were attracted to.(in your case, BOTH happened.)

And yes, it's called Magnetize Object
