Dwarves keep putting restrained dogs back in the pen
« on: January 27, 2013, 09:02:49 am »

I have a dog pen set up with all my dogs in it but also have some restraints set up at my fortress entrance to hopefully detect intruders. My dwarves keep taking the dogs off of the restraints and putting them back in the pen, and then putting dogs back on the restraints. What gives? Is this because the dog is also assigned to the pen? Do I need to ensure that any dogs that should be on a restraint should not be assigned to a pen?

Side question: is it possible to somehow name dogs? I'd love to be able to name dogs so that I know which ones are supposed to be on a chain somehwere..

I don't think you can name your dogs...Maybe using DFHack or something.
Anyways, just unassig them to the pen and I think your troubles will be gone!

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

first unassign it from the cage. Then you can see which one is for the chain (I think), or put it on a pasture, remove pasture - animal is freeeee! On the other hand, just use pastures instead of chains
