Windirection requires a roll, and is thus subject to the vagaries of the antimagic field. So no, don't use Windirection.

I'm not a fan of "trade your money for what's in this box," so we should either outsmart the trap or come back to it once we've cleared the floor.

I am definitely interested in seeing whether the trap triggers when you cross the line, or when you cross the air above it. Grab that plant thing, and wave it around in the air above the chest. This way, we lose nothing of value if it doesn't work!

If a Heal will work here because it doesn't need a roll, a Levitate spell should too. Cast Levitate on a party member (have Cherish give the book to someone with SP) and avoid the trap wire while floating over to open the chest.

EW/others had the right of it. Much like position, ally-target spells being roll-free was a revision to the game sometime around the arena battles (?). Bloodshape is a bit finicky - it doesn't specifically target any ally but rather the item itself.
