I want to read these books now. You said it's called Worm?
Yup.
I take it that when you say "massive infighting occurs", and "Weaver cleans up the mess", about 80 people become "the butcher" in this time period?
From what I gather from what you're saying, killing "the butcher" makes YOU into "the butcher", giving you all the powers and memories of all previous butchers. Like a combination of Halo Reach's Juggernaught (best playmode ever) and The Avatar (Last Airbender and Legend of Kora)?
Wouldn't this make any Butcher past the 5th or so nigh unkillable and immortal? So how is there a 15th already?
Would it be theoretically possible for a Butcher to die of old age, and NOT pass on his abilities and memories to a new Butcher?
Theoretically? Yes. In practice? No. Especially since
the current Butcher is Cherish, who is on life support in the bottom of Brockton Bay. If she survived
Scion attacking that part of America,
then she will probably survive thousands to tens of thousands of years, minimum.
[spoiler]Each butcher only gets a shadow of the previous butchers' powers.[/b]
HTML fail. Might want to fix that, if it's a spoiler.
Not really. Now, if (say) Taylor got a shadow of all of the Butchers' powers, that would be a spoiler, but it isn't a spoiler any more than Eidolon only being able to use three or four powers at once is a spoiler.
Oh, and I don't remember if I weighed in or not, but...
