Why would you want them flushed out, why would those sewers be a good place to go into, back to ew, what, and why would you flush those.

1. Sunlight requires a sun. Otherwise, it's just light.
2. Building on that idea, it could just as easily be magical/electric lighting as it could be natural. In fact, for various reasons, such as the lack of night and the fact that we are still underground, I find it likely.
