Well started things up in Axerings, time for the first actual update, which also is a double post but screw it.
I'll leave any in-character things to the people who get dorfed.
So I embarked in our UV-ray wonderland (with open, haunted bar) with 7 picks, 7 dwarves who know how to use them, and enough booze and plump helmets to keep the bastards from making a suicide run into the sunlight for quite awhile.
Checked up on the units screen and no zombies, badgers, zombie badgers or other competition for sunburn anywhere in sight, so theres a quick relief (means I wasted the 90 points on that silver hammer though, ah well guess I can sell it for a mint.)
I love how no matter what you choose on embark the game gives you some random
animals mobile food, should make it easier avoid tantrum spirals. Well as long as I get a butcher shop up before they die in the heat. I think I will do that now, right after burrowing the dwarves in their new home and getting all the rum inside.
17th of Granite 218(starting year) and just about everything is inside, no casualties and our horse and camel actually came inside as well. This is going surprisingly well.
Heres a pic of the actual area this fort is in right now (I use Pheobus pack)

ImageShack.usWorking on getting that drawbridge to operating standards when I remembered I need to set a raise direction for it, that was close, we want gobbos to melt in the heat while we laugh from inside, not have them run in here for a party.
Got all our stuff inside, now to work on farms, trade depot and the like. Used some wood from the wagon to make a training axe we can cut trees with once I get brave (and have some more expendable type labor)
Dug to the 13th z level, planning to set the bedrooms there and dig further down for workshops when all of a sudden....

ImageShack.usWelp time to work on that bridge....aaaand then the fog refuses to actually appear....huh ah well maybe it was burned away
Also slaughtered the meat stock and started producing some nice meals, that should liven up the dwarves and be a useful trade good...well if they ever bother getting the damn depot up that is.
Put the living quarters together (well I have them designated for mining anyway.

ImageShack.usNext step is to cut some trees for beds but I need to turn in for the night so I'll do that tomorrow.
