Mage Lords RTD [Turn 7: Opposite Day]
« on: January 03, 2013, 04:48:49 am »

Mage Lords. Individuals commanding incredible arcane power, known for many, many different things. Some are enlightened Mage-Kings, guiding their people to prosperity and justice. Others are insane despots, ruthlessly sacrificing their own subjects to slake their own thirst for blood. And many are simply powerful mages, concerned with but distracted from the everyday affairs of their people.

All, however, are ambitious.

You are just such a Mage Lord, having arrived on a plane of utter nothingness by choice or banishment. If the former, you have a truly ambitious scheme- you will create your own private plane of existence and rule over all that exists. If the latter, you most likely had powerful enemies indeed, to end up banished to an utter void like this. Pity it won't stop you, and might even prove useful to your schemes.

For this particular place is a void beyond void- too empty to even be dark. An endless loop of pure white, where nothing is or ever was. Except you, of course; that part's going to come in handy for what comes next. The only snag is that there also appears to be several others... this will complicate your plans of becoming an omniscient god of your own realm.

Bio (Optional):

I will be selecting 5 Mage Lords manually, rather than on a first come first serve basis. The waitlist will probably end up randomized with the remainders.

Special note on your first actions: Your first action will generally need to be creating a type of Terrain, else there's nothing for anything else to sit on. Your second should generally be creating your tower. Once you have a tower of any condition sitting on or in matter of any condition, you're free to do as you like.

World Specifics

==Flora==

Purple Bushes
Fluffy purple bushes. They possess large, tasty but very sweet purple berries. Grow well in mountainous terrain, concentrating in small clusters.

Desert Shrubs
Plain, grey-colored shrubs, looking almost like tiny trees in autumn.

Ball Cacti
Fairly small, ball-shaped cacti, perhaps the size of a small melon. Their flesh is fairly objectionable-tasting, but not absolutely awful and it's sufficient to keep someone alive, if not happy or spectacularly healthy.

Sparse Marsh Grass
Long grass that grows in small clusters here and there. Decently tolerant of excessive moisture, but requires standing water nearby.

==Fauna==

Dire Honey Badgers
Utterly vicious animals the size of a dog but much squatter. They know no fear, pain, or remorse.

Stilt Birds
Monstrous, stilt-legged birds that feed on traproots and hunt Stone Shamblers for gizzard stones.

Stilt Deer
Very long-legged, graceful deer-like creatures. They're somewhat skittish and timid, carefully feeding on swamp grasses.

==Sapients==

Curinam
Intelligent chimpanzees, small but strong, not particularly bright. Able to alter their forms at will for short periods of time. Like keeping Nosferatu Plants as slaves for their delicious fruit.

Drone Slaves, Servants of Thrakor
Black-skinned, blank-eyed humanoids with smoothed-out features, all looking more or less identical. Worship the soul energy in the ash lands' soil as their sacred ancestors. Obedient and selfless to Thrakor.

Goblins
Small but cunning creatures with green skin, red eyes, a usually hunched posture, normally black hair with a rather receded hairline, pointed ears and noses, and several large, pointy teeth.
-Technologies:
   Dire Honey Badger Taming. Allows them to domesticate the vicious dire honey badgers of their home mountain.
   Natural Pacifism. Emphasizes avoidance of industry or war, in favor of living in simple harmony with everything.

Living Embers
Tiny little living embers, with powerful jumping legs, tiny arms, and a long flaming tail. Like to mischievously set things on fire.

Nosferatu Plants
Sinuous, black, wickedly-thorned plants that actively attack and attempt to drain and consume living things. Grow delicious-looking bloodfruits when full. Like keeping Curinam as slaves for their delicious blood.

Stone Shamblers, Servants of No One
Fairly large, hunched humanoidish things of stone, looking like they were cobbled together from several boulders and nearly being able to move on all fours without effort. They don't like trespassers, wizards, their home bog, or anything in or outside their home bog.

==Minerals==

Silverflow
A silvery metal that bends to the slightest touch, being nearly liquid even at normal temperatures.

Stub Iron
A material comparable to low-quality iron.

==Towers==

Matt Highlander's Stacked Crystal Tower
Several purple crystal boulders stacked on top of each other to form a tower, many of them looking like they have windows or are otherwise inhabitable.

Morol Matas' Pillar of Granite
A giant pillar of solid granite. It's magically imbued to possess an "inside" to those who can find their way in, but structurally it's completely solid throughout.

Nix's Stubby Stone Hovel
A plain, squat hovel of plain, grey stone.

Sylvia Jansen's Rickety Boat
A rickety boat designed to ride sand currents.

Thrakor's Obsidian Stalagmite
Obsidian stalagmite the size of a small mage tower.

Tooma Ebenon's Research Facility
A glasslike dome of energy flanked by four equally spaced pillars, located at the bottom of a lifesucking pit lined with green runes.

==Structures==

Death Pit
Black pit lined with ominously glowing green runes, designed to suck the life force out of things inside it. Has a similarly colored and adorned death sphere bobbing gently around above, with occasional green lightning crackling between the two. Empowered to the point where the pit emits a visible glow. Tooma's Old Research Facility is located at the bottom. Paved over with concrete that sags rather obviously.

Tooma's Old Research Facility
A glasslike dome of energy flanked by four equally spaced pillars, twisting obsidian things crossing the chasm they reside in. Located suspended in a hellish void at the bottom of the Death Pit.

==Settlements==

Temple Village
-Location: Ash Lands
-Inhabitants: Drone Slaves (all)
-Fealty: Thrakor (absolute)
-Bonus: Ancestor Worship I
A simple, ash-black village dedicated to the worship of the drone slave's sacred ancestors, meaning the energy of the dead in the ash lands' soil.

Physical: Tall and thin, with oil black hair unkemptly hanging all over his face.  Wears a brown cloak, nothing fancy, with a hood.
Mental: Ruthless psychopath
Bio (Optional): Teleported to this un-plane due to a magical experiment gone wrong.

Character creation is pretty easy, at least. :P

Most of the rest is just a god game where most things require other things to work right, plus codified armies to bludgeon other players with. And routine apocalypses.

Name: Sylvia Jansen

Physical: a woman about 4 feet and 2 inches in height, has short blonde hair and very sharp features, is rather slim. Aged about 50, and definitely looks the part. Wears a blinding white cloak over a grey robe.

Mental: believes in the values of capitalism, has faith in the free market, main priorities are profit and economic growth. Also has great faith in technology, viewing it as a less-potent alternative of magic for the masses. Has a very merciless attitude towards those she perceives as "failures". Keeps trying to achieve her ideal of a society with only successful people in it.

Bio: Sylvia has always tried to achieve power in her life. Not magical power, mind you, but power over people. Magic to her is only a means to an end, a tool to create her own ideal society, one where people would be judged by worthiness, usefulness and daring rather than birth. A society that would cast aside the inefficient dregs that keep dragging it down. However, even after several decades of trying, she found that human society was simply unable to live by these principles. There was always something that made people want to help those less fortunate than themselves. After a long period of consideration, she finally realized what it was - their humanity.

Obviously, there could be only one solution. If humans cannot live in an ideal society, then they may remain in their respective horrible existences. Sylvia, you see, is going to make a new, better race of humans, people that could accept the ideals put forward by her. They called her crazy, and continued to do so when one day she opened a portal to a new, unknown place and stepped through, promising to return someday to enlighten the rest of the world.

Name:  Thrakor
Physical:  A tall, slender man with very sunken features.  Looks like he hasn't had a good meal in a week.  His greying hair is slicked back.  His age is hard to judge, but he's probably in his forties.  Pale skin and piercing green eyes.
Mental:  A completely amoral person with zero empathy whatsoever.  Has absolutely no regard for the wellbeing of others, and is wholly interested in his own gain.
Bio:  Thrakor the Soul-Binder is a terrible, evil, amoral man.  His youth was characterized by experimenting on small animals with his budding magical talent and tormenting fellow children.  He was readily accepted into the local magical university due to his quite potent abilities.  After a couple years, though, he was expelled for stealing necromancy books from the school library.

But he had learned enough.

Starting with animals in the woods, Thrakor began experimenting on the souls of living things.  He found how to extract their energy and bind it to mundane objects, gathering the power they contained.  But animal souls were weak- barely a flicker of energy.  He needed more.  Starting with peasants on remote farms that wouldn't be missed, Thrakor started stealing the souls of humans.  They contained far more power than that of a deer or cow, and soon he grew bolder.  As his power grew, he was able to bind soul energy in bodies, creating an army of soulless husks to aid his conquests.  He began sacking towns.

At the height of his power, Thrakor attacked the most powerful city in the region... and was defeated.  His army fell to the heavy cavalry of the king, and he was captured and brought before a magical tribunal.  His crimes were reviewed, and it was decided that his corrupted, evil soul would be a blight on the land even if he was executed, so he was banished to this dimensional void... but as he was thrown in the portal, he summoned all the soul energy that he had captured back into his body.

Thrakor may be banished, but he is not without power.

Name: Morol Matas
Physical: A small man wearing regal looking clothes several sizes too large for him. He has pale green eyes, tan skin, and brown hair that is either becoming gray or blonde, anthough it's impossible to tell which.
Mental: Cunning and pragmatic, with a twisted sense of valor and a weakness for pretty girls
Bio (Optional): Ever since he was a child, Morol wanted to be a knight. He was obsessed with stories of damsels and dragons, and the moment he came of age, he applied for a job in the military. However, he was laughed at and turned down due to his diminutive stature, and he turned his focus to magic in order to plot his revenge. One day, he discovered an old tome, which was filled with incredibly powerful spells. Morol foolishly read the first incantation that he could find out loud, and was taken to a strange world which seemed to be completely empty. Morol saw this as an opportunity to start civilization all over again, and make a society where even someone as small as himself could become a great warrior.

Is magitech okay? And do they all have to come from the same universe, or could they come in from a different continuum?

The backstory is finally done. Don't know why I wrote a novel for it.

Hm. Pretty much anything fantasy should be fine, I think, so if you want to go magitech or anime or Kirbylike or whatever that all should work.

You may also come from completely different worlds/dimensions, yes.
