I support the whole suggestion.

I especially like the theater idea.

So if these guys can manage to go overseas and up our little tributary with their ships we should reverse engineer them and then we can trade outside of our country (as well as raid). I think we should beef up our Navy. Also, let's get our mechanic to work on some ballistas so we can work on installing them on ships. Our bad ass archers will man the ship as marines as well as some regular peasants as sailors.

Do this later maybe do some rough drafts. We should be focusing on defence and reviving the economy.

Edit'd it.

and of course, but since we have the shipwright built, it shouldn't cost anything beyond stockpiled lumber that wouldn't be used otherwise. If nothing we get a few skeletons up and running.

Remember we agreed to resupply the Duke's navy as well. To Quote:
Quote
You spend a day or two in the city and in discussions with the Duke as your men rest and recover. You agree to send as much grain and meat as you can spare downriver, and promise that your merchants will be fair in their pricing. In return the Duke agrees to use your shipworks for the construction of his shallow-drafted vessels. He also agrees to send any families that cannot be housed in his wrecked town towards your lands, with the idea that you will provide them work on your defenses.
Emphasis mine

So we'll have to wait until the ships for the Duke are built before we get any crazy Navy plans

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Slipped my mind.

That's fine. Then let's use the opportunity to work with the machinist. I have an idea to get a working balista up and running on ships as well as Something for our walls: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scorpio_(weapon)

Let's just get a few working models up to choose from and start producing a few so we can have them in stock and place them where we want when we get our stuff built so we can outfit it right away, rather than add another step to the process.

Minor note about the scorpion, it is a small catapult so it can shoot fire pots (or whatever you guys can think up (pots filled with caltrops)) as well as bolts.

Fully supporting Gerv's ideas there. The military ideas will probably be kept for summer.

We are progressively turning this into the Champagne's fairs, aren't we?
(Champagne's fairs: series of 6 fairs, each lasting several weeks, located in several cities of the XIInd century france. Biggest trading event of the world at the time. Saw the apparition of checks, early banks and loans.)

Let us know when the scribe is finished. I would like to pay the monks at the abbey to make a few hundred leather bound copies to (keep a few) and export around the kingdom, making sure nobility has at least one handy.

This will actually probably build our fame. We will become notable.
Just as a note, but I highly doubt we can afford this. The average production rate of a monk is 1 book / year. Of course, our work is significantly smaller than the Bible, but Monk's aren't known to do request. After all, the entire point of a monastery is to stand apart from worldly stuff like this.

We might be able to get a primitive printing press though.*

*Yes, they existed. The only difference is that the type was not interchangeable, and made of wood. Meaning that for each page needed to be individually engraved, something which was rather costly.

We should send a letter to the duke explaining that Marna is close to childbirth, with an invitation to see the new child once it is born.
Stay close to Marna as much as we can, dote on her if possible.

I think we should use our captured longboats to go out exploring, with the hope of discovering the sea raiders land. If we're able to scout their land a bit, we might be able to determine what they're up to, maybe even eventually plant some spies so we have a little warning next time. We should probably give the men a few months of training on the river and close to the coast before setting out to open sea, though.

That is a bad idea.  We will have no way to get intel at a reliable rate, it could be very far away, and as far as I can tell from what has already been told, nobody knows where they're from.

And let's not worry too much about naval stuff. We're on a river, not a coast.
