Alright. So first present the evidence to our knight friends, then go to Marna and her brother, see what they say before taking it up with the duke.

Well, if not a sword, then a piece of jewelry. Also, at some point we may want to make get a signet ring, when we get a heraldry. That way letters can not be forgeries (Not priority!).

I think we have a vague plan on how we're going to deal with other nobles.

Don't we have a fief to plan for this month, too?

Build up palisade, train more troops and get more ranger inductees, amp up watches, stockpile stone and brick.

Oh yeah, brick! What kind of DF players are we? Why haven't we been using brick as a building material?

Maybe we could make a small brick house, just to see what kind of brick-laying skills our people have.

Behind the curve. We have been waiting till the ground softens in spring. Also we were going to do that with improving roadways in our land. Lol

I suggest that we have a silver brooch fashioned then, it's small enough that attention could be paid to detail and quality.
Perhaps we could pay attention to our new smiths and see if any of them have skill for fashioning weapons or armor, if one does, then let them focus on being a weapon or armorsmith.

Alternative to having archer cavalry, Peltest cavalry. A satchel of about 20-30 javelins along with a saber or bardich to fight with after all javelins have been used up along with an offhanded heater shield for defense.

BAM.

Bardich and saber instead of spear because spears are more a weapon of charging and I figure if they are close enough to hit them with a javelin, they are to close to effectively charge.

Also, we should work on getting shields to all of our spearmen if we haven't already.

Wow lot's of suggestions. Any one collaboration?

Alright, so For reference, we have:

1)strengthen our defenses by increasing patrols and use the new volunteers by splitting them half archers half melee. Also, get started on actual iron weapons(including copper/iron spearheads and arrowheads) and train our new recruits on those. As well, have our rangers try to track that horseman, and have our steward see where the horses came from. Also, have a secure stockade/small jail built out of wood so that we can secure our prisoner/witness where nobody can get to him and silence him

1a)As an aside, I personally vote on training our melee troops as skirmishers using handaxes and spears for hit-and-fade tactics(we don't really have enough militia troops for much in the way of frontal attacks)

2)Assign the most reliable of our troops as our personal guard(make it an official title even!) and assign them to be our bodyguards 24/7

3)Get an appropriate gift to the duke made, something like a silver brooch or bracelet or something of that nature

4)Have conference with our friendly lords when they get here(a given really). Explain what happened and our suspicions, though stress that what evidence we have, while certainly points in the count's direction, isn't solid proof he's behind the assassination attempt

5)Get started stockpiling brick, stone, and wood to prepare for building our manor

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

I don't think so.  And +1 to melee troops, since archers aren't all that good for patrol within a city, seeing as how we could hit our citizens.

Let's just say building. Not building our manor.

Other than that I think that is it.

Year 4, February

Your 22nd birthday comes and goes, but it is a time of anxiety, not celebration, given your recent travails. You split the new recruits between archers and axmen, and set them to training. Patrols are increased, as well, and you start a rotation of two bodyguards, drawn from your most trusted militia, with you at all times. You also move your squire, Alan, into a spare bedroom in your house, as he has volunteered to Captain your guard.

Your rangers are sent to track the horsemen, but a fresh snow obscured their tracks. All they could tell was that the men fled back towards Curbiston, in the direction of the Count's lands. The prisoner is kept in a secure room in the barracks, under guard at all times.

With the mines continuing to produce goods, you start some minor metalworking projects. Your people lack the skill for fine working, but they begin the process of forging crude iron spear blades, axes, and arrowheads. You also start stockpiling bricks, lumber, and stone, in preperation for building your manor this spring.

You send off some silver to fine metalworkers in Curbiston, ordering it worked into a silver brooch in the shape of your sword. It is nicely made, and a worthy present for a Duke.

On another note, you receive permission to make a heraldic sign from the Royal administrators. You have been playing some ideas over in your head, but need to finalize your thoughts. You also receive a note from the Duke, asking you to visit in March.

Late in the month, Sir Denton arrives on horseback. He listens to your story with a grim face, and agrees that the facts seem to implicate the Count. However, none of the proof is irrefutable, in his mind, although the attacker's testimony is quite convincing. He asks the man a few questions, and it comes to light that the attacker never met the Count face to face, which throws the whole story into another light.

Still, he gives you a quiet assurance that he is no big fan of the Count's. Implications are made that, should it come to blows, he would rather draw up banners on your side. He says that Sir Percival would likely feel the same way, and he will stop by his lands on his return to relay your tale.

He takes his leave, and you are left preparing for March and your trip to the Duke's lands. What will you do?

Between the knight and the rangers' info, I'm pretty dang sure it was the Count. Or someone who really, really wants us to think so.

Other guys:
When's planting? March, April, someabouts?
Is it warm enough for large-scale building yet?
