Hmmm... Well we have lots of lumber... Let's improve the barracks and armory. After that build up the obstacle course if we have time, giving it a mud pit and long sand pit. Also let's put someone in charge of the vineyard and build a few casks (not begin a batch until we have some fresh grapes of course).

Let's improve our home only after we have the mine up and running so we can build it out of stone. Let's then try and furnish it with trades from other lands (rugs, tapestries, incense, statuettes, vases, as well as the massive stag skull, and buy some furs off of our trappers to line the floors and walls where we don't have something.) Also, this is just personal preference. If we get a big free standing rock of marble or obsidian or glass let's have it be a centerpiece in our foyer, the flooring built around it.

Sounds good.

In regards to our grapes, once they've been harvested i think we should ask Marge Kannity on advice on brewing and fermenting. Then we should take some of them and try a variety of slightly different brewing techniques, at least three. Then we can take the remainder and split between selling as a luxury food item to make us some much needed coin, and carrying some seeds over for the next planting season.
This month our efforts should be primarily overseeing the harvest and taxes, but we should set aside a little time to familiarize ourself with the law a little.

+1 to all of that, but I think that apart from the foundation and cellar(s) our house should be made of timbers.  Just 'cause it looks nice, and we can have the beams carved with designs and we can paint it neat colours and some such.
We can carve and paint stone as well. Besides, it seems to make sense to have the heavier, stronger material supporting the lighter, weaker material than the other way around...

I really only suppose stone has sturdy value. Timber works for me. Is it cedar? I love the smell of cedar so god damn much!

Mm. So should we just build our wall and towers out of stone? If we are sacrificing one defense we will make up for it with another.
Yeah, I think that we should more defend either the entire town as a walled city, or we should have a castle for official matters/sieges and then the house for everything else.

Our foundation should be made of stone in the very least. We could also build stone supports to make multiple stories more viable.

One thing we DO need to think about is if we do start attending formal functions regularly, as well as lead troops frequently, is our heraldry. I don't remember how it worked back then, but we at least need to learn what we need to do to get whatever we come up with approved by our peers.

With that in mind, I say we should have it be blue and forest green backgrounds, with a shaft of wheat(to signify our farmer heritage) and a sword(to signify winning our knighthood with valorous acts on the battlefield).

As for October, study the laws and get the judiciary running, appointing trustworthy individuals as magistrates to arbitrate any disputes we or our steward can't be present for(as well as judging minor crimes like public drunkenness that isn't worth our time). When the harvest comes in and taxes have been taken care of, see if we can get some trade goods sent down the river and get the picks we need for getting the mine at least started a little. As for other projects, yeah until then expand barracks/armory, and see if we can find better wood for bows. Also, get plans made for future expansions to the armory with a blacksmiths for when we start pulling iron from the ground(though don't build it until we actually have iron production!)

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

I think familiarizing ourself with the law will be important here, as we need to go through the proper channels to insure that our heraldry ends up in historical logs and whatnot.

That's what I meant, it's not something to do right now, but we should at least inquire what those proper channels are so we can get thinking about what the design should be. Also, reiterating getting the judiciary up and running

Yeah, that's why i said our personal time should be spent learning law, in addition to fulfilling the responsibilities we currently have.

Yeah, I think that we should more defend either the entire town as a walled city, or we should have a castle for official matters/sieges and then the house for everything else.

Well at some point we could have a walled city with a stone military fortress/citadel (barracks, armory, warehouse, dug in enclosure for citizens) the house and all being a separate part altogether. That way we have a fallback point and can last a while even if our walls are broken and a siege goes really against us. More hold out means more likelihood of reinforcements, and if this is anything like medieval Europe, we will be expecting some type of country wide war at some point.

Worries for another time. So Timber then. Plus I already fell in love with the idea of smoothed cedar. We may as well just start all over again and build the whole place out of that beautiful smelling wood.

Make it exotic looking to.  So that it stands out in it's design.

I read that backwards.

I don't care a lot; timber is likely easier to work with on the upper floors, and makes us less distanced, but stone is sturdier, doesn't rot, improves our image, and (IMHO) looks better.

I do agree that after harvesting grapes we should look into fermenting them into wine(having Marge assist as suggested). Also agree with taking a small amount and planting more seeds for more grapevines

I'm torn. Granite does look better and is sturdier... But will not be ready any time soon.

Surprise me fellas. I don't have this one.

Either way, barracks, armory, O course, casks, Yes?

Law regarding heraldry, I'm for.

I have my own suggestion for our sigil but that will be when we get to that point.

Grapes.... Did we plant any?
