But it seems a nice guy. We will ask, that's for sure. As for when, that might be for next spring at the earlier.
For the festival... Getting a little feel of what our peasantry is thinking about it (and the noblemen/women hanging around) perhaps? Also the merchants. :)

Yes. I agree with this. Let's get to know the noble, get to know what they are thinking and learn about our people. How are they doing? What would they like to see? Who wants to do what? That sort of stuff. Listen to concerns, ideas, interests. Get to know our people a bit better. Even the serfs. Especially the serfs. We don't want another revolt.

I suppose we could hace submitted our stag for the best hunter contest xD perhaps this is better though

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

I don't think this would've been a good idea. After all, as their Lord, the peasants would probably have let us win with whatever happened.

Yeah, make sure that our people know that we have interest in them and their accomplishments, and foster a sense of community among those under our care.

Having met with all of your guests, you turn your attention back to the festival. You put in an appearance at every event, clapping men on the back, chatting with the women, shaking hands, laughing at the banter between competitors. There is a sense of optimism about the area, people feel as if you are a good steward of the land. The nascent industries are also attractive to merchants, who can foresee a good deal of wealth coming to the region.

In short, people are happy. It is a good time in your lands. They are proud of you, their Lord, and looking to the future with a sense of hope. You hear from Irlof that some of the merchants were overheard sniggering about your poor housing, and general country manner. But in general, the commonfolk love your leadership and the merchants respect the way you have secured the region for trade.

At the end of the festival, Sir Melvin and Lady Marna make their departure, with Lady Marna saying that she hopes to not go so long before speaking with you again. You blush a bit, incredulous that a Duke's niece is talking to you, of all people, in this way. Sir Melvin shakes your hand, and bids you farewell.

With the festivities over, it's time to roll up your sleeves. Tax time is just around the corner, plus the harvest. What will you do in October?

Hmmm... Well we have lots of lumber... Let's improve the barracks and armory. After that build up the obstacle course if we have time, giving it a mud pit and long sand pit. Also let's put someone in charge of the vineyard and build a few casks (not begin a batch until we have some fresh grapes of course).

Let's improve our home only after we have the mine up and running so we can build it out of stone. Let's then try and furnish it with trades from other lands (rugs, tapestries, incense, statuettes, vases, as well as the massive stag skull, and buy some furs off of our trappers to line the floors and walls where we don't have something.) Also, this is just personal preference. If we get a big free standing rock of marble or obsidian or glass let's have it be a centerpiece in our foyer, the flooring built around it.

I really only suppose stone has sturdy value. Timber works for me. Is it cedar? I love the smell of cedar so god damn much!

Mm. So should we just build our wall and towers out of stone? If we are sacrificing one defense we will make up for it with another.
