I agree with finishing the palissade, make the new recruits either spearmen or macemen, train our defensive skill, check newcomers for skills.

Macemen. Also I think that in addition to finishing the palisade we improve our warehouse. After all, if we do well this harvest, it won't matter at all if there is no place to store it.

Oldest male son? There are female sons? Or male daughters?

Sorry, I have a cold, and it was late. Basically, I meant that male children of title holder are first in line, then female children, followed by brothers and then sisters of title holder.

Let's get them to use those axes we picked up from the bandits.
Put out feelers for someone who would be capable of designing the mill.

Macemen.
Why? Aren't maces best at piercing armor?
Spears give reach. Axes give great big cuts. Swords give dexterity. Maces and other blunt weapons don't seem like they'd be a lot of use until we get into combat with well-armed people.

I know, I was just teasing. Don't take it personally.

we could perhaps send our steward out with a mission to procure a book about mechanisms.

We should mining granite blocks to make a new house for ourselves. We could make ourselves a little stone tower-house as a keep for our palisade.

I think it best we leave it up to a subject matter, keeps the town autonomous.

Also, I change my vote to axes. Maces are only effective because I know that is our weapon of choice. Also getting them set up with shields may be a great and simple idea. Just saying.

So far:Palisade, Axes, (possibly warehouse), (possibly shields).

Should we pursue those grapes?

Good thinking, but not quite yet, we need more money for that.

We should have Wood craft some simple shields for all of our infantrymen. We could also get them some temporary wooden armour, bracers and greaves and whatnot.

I think it best to just skip from fur to iron. I want to implement this when iron armor is a possibility.

Rank is determined by leadership ability, armor is determined by competition within the group. As in physical competitions will be held to receive a certain piece of armor, but when participating in any training or one of these competitions you must wear all of the armor that you have gotten up till this point.

In wartime we will issue them temporary armor sets, but if they win the pieces, they can wear it whenever, a show of their strength and combat prowess.

Year 3, April

As April rolls around, you spend some time gathering some grape vines for use in the communal plot. You instruct your farmers to take special care of them, as you imagine they could become very valuable some day in the future. They seem to transport well for the most part, although the farmers worry about what a cool winter may do to their growth.

You search the newcomers for a mechanic, and are surprised to find a man who has some familiarity with mills among the new tenants on your lands. You immediately invite him to start drawing up plans for the watermill, which he believes can be completed in a month or two if you work hard on it. While you have the blades already, he wants to know what you will be primarily using the mill for. Cutting lumber, processing grains, or another task?

You spend your remaining time with the militia, training your shield skills. You have the new recruits take up the axes culled from the dead brigands, and you have Mr. Wood build some crude shields for your infantry. You spend most of your time working on your blocking, and it goes surprisingly well. By the end of the month, you have some small amount of skill with it.

The palisade is also completed this month, providing your growing town a sense of security. Several more families move into the town this month, an the population is nearing 70.

How would you like to proceed next month?

Lumber, all the way. We can build windmills when we want to grind grain. The watermill is going to be all lumber.

Bitchin'.

... Alright guys... two things. We are going to need to get those grapes figured out before this upcoming winter but that's half a year away. We can probably manage to set up a wino with a few casks before then.

The second thing, I am going to suggest it again, only because I am super excited about it and I don't see us working on the mine anytime soon and mill production should be steady and easily pumped out in a couple of months with the mechanics and wood's supervision. Let's try and find that shipwright. We are copiable in most skills, at least to get by, and our land is growing fiercely. I am confident that building ships will be our next stepping stone.

The only other alternative, in my mind, would be training our troops into badass gods of men, more.

Why not start while the air is still warm and the sun still bright?

...Not a bad idea, but not practical or needed at the moment.
