You go to the manager and tell him the haulers did not come to clean up the lab.  He states that all of them were busy bringing items to the trade depot, bringing up ore from the mines to the smelters, or were on break.  (Difficulty: (9 for 2)(7 for 1)    11-2-1*-1**=7)  He grudgingly assigns you one assistant who (Difficulty: 10**   13-2-1-1) has few skills of use.  He is (Difficulty: 12**  18-2-1-1) eager to learn alchemy and is a quick learner.

Information:  The Mystics practice metallurgy, but rather than forging weapons, they imbune different varieties of wood or stone with strength equal to their metal counterparts.

“Yes sir,” says the new recruit as you go to collect the goblin.  “I will get some supplies from the stockpile and meet you at the gates, sir.”  You let him go off to get the supplies as you descend into the cell block.  You see the goblin in the one semi-lit cell.  He is slumped against the back wall, with the chains barely long enough to allow his feet to stretch, and his arm-chains barely letting him sit on the ground.  The goblin stirs and looks at you, somewhat sadly saying, “Another beating?  Another taunt of food out of my reach?Further torture?  Whatever you are thinking of, I’ve withstood it since I was forced here at the age of 3, 143 years ago.  What is it you going to do?”

You begin with the look of the two samples.  The processed adamantine wafer appears to be a duller blue than that of the unprocessed thread.  You also notice that the wafer is more akin to a solid bar than a collection of individual threads wrapped around each other, but you do see individual threads, which appear in the shape of veins, scattered along the surface.  You put together more of your individual threads, using half of a vial, to make a sample the size of the wafer.  Your newly created piece looks more like a tube than the wafer’s box shape.  Do you continue performing this study, or do something else?

The +0 to Muktd Irondam’s diplomacy check is due to the slight opposition between the manager’s technologist faction, and Muktd Irondam’s combinationalist faction.  Below is the sliding scale of charisma bonuses/penalties in the conversations between faction alignments.Ignored means that the charisma check is not utilized.  Instant failure means that any conversation to a NPC of the other faction in that portion, instantly fails.  This only applies to NPCs, not PCs.

Within the same turn I have utilized multiple checks on the incoming assistant.  Due to the assistant being assigned by an NPC, that is to determine his/her favor towards you, and utilizes charisma checks.

Anyways.

Greet the assistant, introduce myself to him, and have him help me clean up the lab. Unless it's a female assistant, in which case replace "him" with "her."

Check to see if anybody is currently locked up in the retreat for any kind of crimes, ask around for any information about those we may have to face in the course of the mission.

You greet him.  You learn that his name is Bosa Utokngoslun.  Your assistant begin to clear out the debris that blocked the doorway as you go to get a wheelbarrow.

You ask around and find out that at the current time that four people are currently locked up in the retreat.  You find out that the Sins of Trouble and The Nation of Hailing are along your pathway.  Both are Technologist aligned.

You arrive a short distance away from the limits of the tower, you cannot see it yet, but your horse stops.  Suddenly, you cannot hear anything but your breath.  You look up and see a large black portion of the sky overhead.  When it passes, all sound returns, and your horse bolts.  You are thrown off and fall onto your back.  (Difficulty:19  12+3+5+2-5*=17) The horse begins to bolt away, and (Difficulty:14  4-1-1-1+2=3) you are thrown off the horse.  It continues to run off, and it is doubtful that you can catch up with it.

*In a time like this, animals take a -5 to represent their instincts.

“Hmph.I can’t believe that the king would let me off his hands.  Especially since I know his secret.  That deal must be pretty good,” said the goblin as you unbind his hands.  When you unbind him, he rubs his wrists, and says, “Can’t remember the last time these were off.  I would’ve thought for sure my skin would’ve fused to those binds.”

After intense study, you notice that the wafer appears to have a slightly hammered shape at its edges, it may have been forced into that shape.  In fact you may just be the first person to discover the fact that the threads form into the structure.  Fascinating.  You might want to get a permit to utilize some of the power grid to determine the electrical properties.
