you hear a low boom, you hear a metal ching
« on: December 16, 2012, 02:05:43 pm »

Was wondering a 2nd level cavern and disturbed some rats, after I hear a low boom again and again and afterward I hear a metal ching too.

Searched around for some time but found nothing, eventually got far from there and stoped hearing anything.

Also, Ive travelled 2 map (Shift Q) tiles and have not found any animal life.

So, I donīt want to spoil the fun for myself, but also am very curious about the unexplained noises wich I may not find again. Any clues about how to find the source? Is it worth to spend time searching or should I continue untill eventually it happens again?

I donīt usually play that much so it may never happen.

As far as I know some creatures have added "sounds" on them. Things you hear from them often before you see them, a kakapo happens to be one of those creatures.

In the raws under kakapo:
Code: [Select]

                [CASTE:MALE]
[MALE]
[SOUND:PEACEFUL_INTERMITTENT:200:1000:VOCALIZATION:boom:booms:a low boom]
[SOUND:PEACEFUL_INTERMITTENT:50:1000:VOCALIZATION:ching:chings:a metallic ching]

Thanks.

Pitty I never found it, I searched a lot after hearing it.

Maybe the game could tell us the direction of the sound in the future. Ill sugest that in the forum.

A kakapo is a big parrot right? I find it strange for it to be living on a 2nd level cavern. I found the sound again further in the cavern so there were at leas two of them, hope they find each other.

Its probably on the surface. In some mods you can see fighting in the log between monsters on cavern 1/2. When you are on the surface.

Ive read about an issue where the wildlife is "activated" when you walk over the area that you are in but the game either fails or just outright doesnt add them back when you have moved out. So you might have walked in the areas over the caverns and the wildlife is erased. Maybe its related to that.

Or its just an almost deserted cavern. Sometimes it takes years for things to arrive in some cavern layers while there is loads going on on another layer in fort mode.

Only life I find in caves is getting thrown in the water by pound grabbers as they impale me

Going around in adventure mode aniquilates underground wildlife:

Apparently, the game spawns creatures when travelling over an area and then forgets to add them back to the population when
you leave the zone.
