You're seriously taking an internet tough guy joke seriously?
I'm more bemused by the fact that it took him several posts to notice it.

A knife doesn't travel faster than sound, and it is easily dodged if thrown.

Also, if you throw your knife, you don't have a knife anymore.

But when you throw a bullet you don't have that bullet anymore either.

We can stick to the theory, but it's not showing anything.

Again, bombs are so easy to make. And they do a LOT more damage than guns.

I think a mugger throwing his stanley knife at you is the least of your worries as you try to hold your diagonal face wound shut.

What we SHOULD do is ramp up the penalties for using a gun in a crime. Armed robbery with a firearm? Life in prison. Assault with a firearm? Life in prison. Multiple counts of murder by firearm? Death row for 5 years, electric chair thereafter.  We get the best of both worlds. Criminals decide not to use guns, and people can still defend themselves.

And now we have the total lack of understanding of the effectiveness of deterrence in relation to crime prevention. Huzzah! ::)

That is... such an expensive and inhumane idea.

How is that more desirable than safety education? Especially safety education paid for by gun owners.

So basically you chaps are proposing safety checks (of your secure cabinet etc), mandatory safety training and psychological testing? No bans?

For fucks sake. It's been said over, and over, and over again. Nobody is arguing for blanket bans of all find. There is no country on earth where all guns are banned. There will never be such a place. Please do stop acting as if anyone has suggested it, because nobody has.

Yeah that's not mugging that's attempted manslaughter. Also if you ever come across someone in London who has a gun - you can be sure that's someone who's either got the backing of a crime syndicate or has planned to kill.

I think that depends on where you live and who you deal with, good sir. The common hoodlum rarely has a gun, although more hardened criminals recomission decomissioned pistols or use sawn off hunting shotguns. Let's not forget that although the worst you'll deal with most of the time is a stanley knife or kitchen knife, machetes and samurai swords are status symbols among such people.
The common hoodlum never has a gun. Our police force arrested an ex-SAS soldier for carrying an unregistered pistol and convicted him. Samurai sword replicas are also banned. Knife control is strict and police retaliation effective. The only issue with crime in the UK is that it exists; but they have nothing to do with the tools, those are social and economic faults. The government is doing well enough in keeping violent crime down. It's also decreasing every year.
And all this restriction does tend to keep the injuries on the non-lethal side, and with our healthcare we can treat the wounded and even the aggressors.
Gun control, it works bitches.

Would safety education have helped in this case, or any case where people use guns, illegal or legal, for murder?

Make guns so ridiculously punished for illicit use that your average burglar decides "Probably not a good idea" and doesn't use one. He uses a knife, which works for his purpose just as well but an armed homeowner would have the edge.

You find me a burglar who think he's going to get caught and therefore is trying to mitigate his punishment and I'll show you a guy who is not a burglar.

Ba'al Bless the United States of Babylonia! All hail President Hammurabi!

Do you think that threat of punishment would have deterred this tragedy? Or any spree killing, where a person does not care about the consequences of their actions whatsoever and fully expects to die?

Of course gun control would not have prevented something like this. If you read my posts, I never once said it would have.
