Weighted weapons
« on: December 12, 2012, 12:23:40 pm »

A while back I had a dwarf go on a strange mood and he created a gold mace encrusted with gems. Maces are the type of bludgeoning weapon and tend to do better with more weight and gold is more dense than silver and it also is encrusted with a gem so it is an effective weapon. This led me to wonder...
Does encrusting a bludgeoning weapon with gems increase its overall weight and make it a more effective killing tool?

No, decorations don't increase weight, even if they're metal or stone.

Gold maces are very powerful on their own however, being even heavier then lead ones.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

This is deathwacks the doom of spanking; A platnium mace. It menaces with spikes of "Oh shi-" and "CARP!"

Though maybe that's the issue. The concept is just too simple for the dwarven mind to grasp!

I've had all sorts of awesome weapons/armor, but i did cheat and use DFHack to change what the item was (i.e i made an adamantium set of leggings worth about 12 million by changing all my metals nearby to adamantium and anything else i could find that he was after into better quality stuff).

I just found a barrel which contained a wheelbarrow. Inside the wheelbarrow was another barrel. I don't even understand how that is possible.

How? I tried the other day to use DFhack for some easy !!SCIENCE!! but couldn't for the life of me change/edit any items. I was trying to the use the... tiletype command or something to paint? The only thing I was able to do was cause my DF to crash.

you need to make sure the item is of the same type, i have not tried using "force" much.

as an example to change copper to steel:
changeitem m INORGANIC:STEEL
i quite often use it with autodumping if i'm in a cheating mood (i.e making decent rooms for dwarves quickly, stack up a bunch of beds/tables)
so dump designate a huge bunch of metal bars/anything
autodump here
puts them all on the same location
changeitem m INORGANIC:STEEL here
changes all items in the stack into steel (platinum can be cool too)
changeitem q 5 here
changes all items in the stack to masterful

be hugely warned, this is some cases is going to send MASSIVE migrant waves and MASSIVE goblin sieges at you, especially if changing to adamantine.
I lost shortly after the 12 million dorf bucks greaves (well, i held off the siege but half my fort was dead and too lazy to try and resurrect it).
The migrant wave immediately after making it was 34 dwarves, which just about doubled my population at the time.

you can change single items but you need them selected by name on the left (i.e, to select a made bed use "t" to select buildings parts then change it), to select a single item use k to view, -/+ to select if in a long list. Can also select items dwarves are wearing,

I do not think you can change the decorations item type. So if you want to try it on a mood, use v to view the dwarf as he picks up each item from the stockpile for his mood, and edit.
Can also use "t" to select his workshop, not sure if it works after it's said he's begun making his masterpiece (thinking about it, i can't see any reason why not)
