AMD Radeon 6670
« on: December 07, 2012, 04:52:37 pm »

After working for about a year, it's been crashing my computer. Multiple squares of differing colors appear, then it goes to a black screen with new squares, before blue screening. Pulling it out and putting it back in has solved nothing.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like you fried it.

Or got something on it.

Graphics cards get notoriously hot.
They burn out somewhat frequently.

I hate to say it, time for an upgrade.

A lot of wiggling, and it worked. My computer is an absolute mess, wires everywhere.

That sounds like the pci-e slot is taking a crap (probably pins or slot),is your computer prebuilt?

Check to see if the heatsink/fan is making proper contact with the graphics die on the card. Sometimes 3rd parties just slab a bunch of thermal paste and loosely put a 4 screws on with a spring lock for pressure.
Sometimes:
The screws should be undone,
Thermal paste cleaned up with isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth,
Thermal paste reapplied neatly with a finger condom or credit card forming a thin continuous layer over the die,
Screws loosely rescrewed by opposite corners and then slowly tightened until contact is made.

While the heatsink is off use canned air and clean dust bunnies from fins/fan and check the status of the fan. If the fan isn't easy to turn, either order a replacement fan of same dimension or carefully oil the fan with key oil if you have it (very small amount will do).
