How does one deal with Necromancers/Zombie Armies?
« on: November 21, 2012, 09:50:03 pm »

So as I'm adventuring the land, slaying various titans with my motley crew of elves, dwarves, and humans, I've come across a Necromancer Tower that's filled to the brim with undead corpses, arms, other body parts and necromancers themselves (I counted three). I didn't think much of it so I let it be and continued creating a name for myself, but eventually curiousity got the better of me and I decided it was an eyesore that needed to stop existing. So I geared up for a reasonable battle.

The first time I tried to take it on, I had 16 various fortress guards with me (who all were well trained and even took out three titans without anyone dying) and I barely made it out with two macemen after that slaughter. I went on with my quests and raised my rep some more and gradually restocked to have another go. The second time I tried to go at the tower, I had 18 dudes with me and I ended up being beaten to death with a shoe while my team got slaughtered around me... again. My only question is how do you deal with this crazy-hard battle? I've taken out fire-breathing titans with minimal loses, but some zombies, and necromancers who can't land hits for shit, are decimating my ass.

What do?

Throw things and keep your distance. It's very tedious, but very safe.

Become undead first - vampire or werewolf. Then the Zombies leave you well alone.

Currently playing a necromancer vampire. There is a lot of death going around.

I consider becoming a night creature in order to get a slab pretty cheesey.

1:Go to the tower door.
2:Run
3:Kill the zombies one at a time.
4:Kill any necro that appears first
5:Go to second floor.
6:Repit until you find the slab or a book.

In a hole in the ground there lived a dwarf. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a dwarf fortress, and that means magma.

this.  you can draw tgem outside slowly to die at you convienence.  Or play the pacifiest and lead them into the woods.

Fun question about towers:
where do the bodies come from?

I've never heard of a necromancer or his zombies going postal on anyone but a player fortress.  Quite ofyen I notice necros in worldgen have 0 kills and just drop off the face of the Earth after moving into a tower...

I tried the throwing technique, but the bastard must've read this topic because he's always got at least 2-3 zeds stacked on his tile and my shit keeps hitting them instead. The urge to chop this man's arms and legs off is growing with every minute  >:(.

I actually examined legends mode for this a few times. The bodies comes from battlefields, sometimes as long as a century after the battle's been fought ( I had a world where human necromancer seem to be obsessed with having elf zombies and kept visiting elven battlefields and reviving them. Also the one that revived one over a century after the battle, which happened half a century after he went necromancer ).

It's not something that's usually noticible unless personal history was examined and I still suspect that it glosses over a lot of extra bodies picked up from 'unimportant' people without names.

Fire, just throw bruning junk at the center of the zombies then sneak away as thay burn up.
you need get the fire up to 10508u(282 C).
try to keep a zombie that can be raise but is too bady wounded to fight.

any randomized syndrome can be a power full weapon

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

I once tried to tackle a tower head on, you know with a lot of meatshields companions and a lot of guts... It didn't work..

So instead i led the undead on a merry chase through the nearby woods and lit things on fire left and right. It actually worked pretty well and the entire bottom floor of the tower was empty afterwards. The problem was that the necromancers had been pretty busy and filled up the entire tower with undeads so when i went up to the second floor i got swarmed and ended up being chocked to death by my own decapiteded arm.

So yeah, i would suggest you become a night creature before you try to tackle a tower. :)

Well, I got the were-beast thing down pat, but now I'm too busy depopulating small villages... Oh well, I guess that Necro-Tower isn't too important.

If any of your severed body parts become reanimated you'll be fighting full clones of yourself in a month.

That bug was fixed. I'm also interested to see if were-creatures are actually considered undead, because from what I gather the dead like trying to kill them regardless.
