Water from aquifer makes dwarfes dizzy and sleepy
« on: November 17, 2012, 04:26:34 pm »

On my current map, i digged down 3 z levels to acces a aquifer for freshwater to drink during a winter.
Apparently every dwarf who will drink from this source falls asleep + dizzy effect. The condition lasts for like a ingame month or two.

Anybody expirienced anything similar? :D

Sounds like something died in the water chamber, did you check?
Or, it's quite possible that one of your dwarves or items was covered with "fall asleep + dizzy effect" dust and walked through the water.

It must be contaminated by a dwarf previously coated with sleep powder. Obsidianise your drinking hole and water storage if you can and mine it out or atomsmash the area to remove the contamination.

Clearly Toady finally added water effecting dwarves as it should since it dilutes the alcohol in their blood. Just make sure dwarves with a high water blood content don't operate minecarts or anything like that.

This is the problem right here.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

From the OP's post history, it appears he is using the Masterwork mod and/or the Lazy Newb Pack. One of those mods probably has something that is causing this to happen.

It usually helps if people mention that in the OP.

Then it happened. Then I cringed. Then I picked it up and beat him to death with it, and then his buddies, too.

If your dwarves are drinking water, you're already in deep shit. But if you look at the tiles of the water source you should be able to see contaminants. If the water and surrounding walls, floors etc are clean, it's a modded in disease from Masterwork and hs nothing to do with water.

Sounds more like one of the secret fun stuff that masterwork brings to the table.  If you don't see any contaminants in the water, that's it.

God, the day my MW fortress had a plague epidemic... *shudder*.  Dwarves were too sick to bury the dead, bodies lay rotting in the streets.  And this was in the middle of a Jotunaar siege too.  I play where all farming must be done outside the "walls" as a personal challenge, so sieges actually suck, a lot.
