Okay guys, this is going to be very picture heavy, to make it less like an infinite wall I am dividing all the screencaps into three spoilers in case you don't really give a shit what I have in my stocks but want to know what Lemon's military stats are at.
Report itself is relatively short I'd say.
TL;DR version
Lapse:
We begin by furnishing many of the new rooms on the far western end of our stable, almost all of the rooms get aluminium footlockers (we had a bunch to spare).
We build another metalsmith near the end of our militia iron gear order to speed up our current and future orders (shortly after it's constructions ALL of our militia sans the snipers and our starting 7 get their equipment and are now fully armored and armed).
Raider snatchers and black radscorpions attack, our robots take care of them, the minigun turret deals good damage on targets and our protectaponies (pets who happened to be in the right place at the right time) assisted our sprite-bots in a game of "kick and push the shit out of everything using your metal hindlegs and floaty ball bits".
No losses, but the protectapony and two sprite bots are all banged up.
Slaver siege appears!
Everyone fall back below ground and our bridges are raised.
All of our militia is called up to the courtyard and our snipers are sent to the top of our little 3 story tower (the tower in which our turrets are).
To my surprise the snipers open fire immediately and wound a few raiders, one of them is killed and they all leg it, every single one of them.
Some black radscorpions begin to roam about and our snipers open fire on them from an incredible range, they don't kill any of them and they aren't priority targets, so I call my snipers back.
As this happens a steel ranger thief with a rocket launcher is uncovered, he fires one rocket at a retreating wounded slaver and sets fire to the entire map.
We wait until the fire dies out before resuming outdoor operations.
Just a few moments after this happens a black radscorpion goes apeshit and kills one of our haulers and is in turn killed by one of our soldiers who doesn't take a single scratch in the fight.
Remember when black radscorpions where the cancer of everything? Yeah, not anymore.
Kitchen/Meeting Hall smoothing is completed, our builders did a great job, everything feels so smooth now, ponies are sliding all over the floors for how smooth and cozy the meeting hall is, better be careful not to fall into that lava pit (which before anyone asks I placed there using DFliquids for effect, it serves no purpose and will not be used for anything).
The 8 of us (the 7 of us veterans + Corai) sit down to watch one of the old holovids we scavenged over a couple of beers and sparkle colas.
It's called "Cube" and is a sort of horror/survival movie about a group of ponies who are trapped in a giant cube filled with smaller rooms with deadly traps in them.
It was pretty sick (both in a cool and gross way, Corai for one threw up all over the floor, not like it matters that much, there is fucking vomit EVERYWHERE anyway) and the opening scene gave us a fantastic idea.
The opening scene showed one pony, an elderly bald stallion, walking into a room that was seemingly empty, he steps into the room and then you hear this metallic
"SLING!" followed by the stallion falling apart into cubes of meat, after he falls apart the camera reveals the trap that did this, a sort of net made of razor sharp metal strings.
We discussed this trap with our mechanical engineers and they came up with a good schematic for a similar trap using our barbed steel wire (and here I thought it was useless!).
The traders need to take a wider path to get to our depot, but our enemy wont, they will almost always take the shortest path to our bridge to try and get over it before it closes.
So we are setting up a wall with several openings where we will place some of these steel wire traps.
Might not have that good of an effect on the rangers, or the scorps even, but the slavers... who show up barely clothed... heh heh... heheheh...
MWEHEHEHEHEH-
Following uneasy times it has been decided that the seven of us will return to at least partial active combat duty.
We are needed on the field too and I certainly don't want to be sitting around when the enemy attacks.
We pen all our sprite-bots to the inner courtyard, including those who have been taken in as "pets" by some of our ponies.
Clearly it is no longer safe for them to roam about outside and all they do anyway is pick fights with critters many times larger than them (remember Murder? The
EVIL homicidal sprite-bot?).
It will be good to have them there instead where they can assist in fights taking place in the courtyard.
We designate more areas for scavenging in preparation for our next sorting operation.
Unicorn boy is born, he is destined to become a swordspony in our military.
An outstanding pony is discovered after she is taken into the hospital to give birth, a mare named Lyric Lemon, Lemon, the name of our stable.
We declare her a "hero" (to represent us as a kind of mascot or something) and except her from all her labors and work.
She gives birth to an earth pony girl who is to become a martial pony in our military.
Her mother must be proud to have given birth to a future soldier and defender of the stable.
Forest Fancyshelter is taken by a mood, he is inspired by an idea, of something incredibly awesome.
He claims a craftshop, takes a single rough boulder of limonite and begins his work.
We ask him if he wasn't going to take anything else and he just replies "Nope, I got all I need right here."
Nothing happens in the time he works on his project, and eventually he presents us "Depressfeed the Colorless Bewilderment" a measly limonite scepter.
He gives us the hoof and goes back to his work.
What a fucking
asshole.
A wastelander caravan arrives, and as they make their way to the trade depot two steel ranger ambushes are uncovered!
The bridges are raised immediately, stranding most of the trade caravan outside.
The rangers destroy most of the caravan while we are busy getting into position.
All melee units in the courtyard, our snipers on the tower and our rifleponies on the northern wall.
This move proves to be nearly fatal to our rifleponies whose BB guns are defenitely unable to deal with the heavily armed and power armored rangers to the north, one of ours is killed and half their squad is injured, our snipers and rifleponies orders are cancelled (in fear of the rangers killing our snipers) and they retreat back inside.
Then we noticed that two of our ponies were stuck outside, a craftspony and a riflepony (how the riflepony, with NO LABORS, ended up outside I have no idea), they are both quickly killed, but the riflepony throws one serious flurry of kicks which knocks him out temporarily.
What's even worse is that not one, but TWO, irradiated storms flew in over our area, engulfing half the map in death.
The steel rangers were unaffected (having rebreathers and such) but our soldiers were not, before any disasters happened we called EVERYONE inside and let the storms die out.
At this point, with no ranged units at our disposal, surrounded by rangers who didn't seem like they were going to let go, we considered making the hard decision of simply isolating ourselves from the world (and from all that sweet scavenge!), but then we had one last idea.
We remembered our snipers range, and so we sent our two brave soldiers back up to the tower.
What they did was amazing, and saved our scavenging operations, contact with surrounding world and our lives.
The snipers open fire on the rangers camping out on the southern side and seriously injure 4 of them.
Taking fire and wounds like that the rangers broke completely and ran for their lives, leaving their wounded behind and forcing them to crawl and wobble away.
When all but one ranger have left we take our chance, lower the bridge and send our melee squads after the mortally injured ranger who is just short off the map edge, we lose him by
5 tiles.
Triumphantly our snipers make their way back down and are received as heroes and saviors of Lemon, virtually every pony of Lemon gathered in the meeting hall to party and offer them drinks, the celebrations lasted all night and the two snipers were so drunk out of their mind that they couldn't train for the entire next two days.
Drunk ponies are best ponies right? Wrong.
Still, this battle gave me much to think about.
I was genuinelly convinced that this would be the end of all our surface operations, and my reaction to this entire chain of events were similar to Lightning Dust's in
this comic.
But now that I know that all we need are snipers to chase our enemy away our objective become rather clear.
We need
more snipers,
more Virtual Reality simulators,
more firearms training hologems,
more anti machine rifles and
more large calibre ammunition.
And I have somepony in mind for our third sniper, Lyric Lemon.
She becomes a sniper in a squad of her own and is assigned to train in the VR until she is capable enough to hold a rifle.
Problem is, we don't have any other rifles, turns out we only have two. So we need to scavenge or build more somehow.
In the meanwhile VR training is good enough for her, it's not like she'll be able to contribute anytime soon anyway.
With the losses Rifle Squad A took Rifle Squad B is no longer needed.
It is disbanded, and the one pony in Rifle Squad B is merged with Rifle Squad A.
The wounded are treated in the hospital, the nurse redheart bot is put to use again.
From what we can tell she (or "she", IT) fully healed one of our ponies.
But once again we can't be sure, nopony was watching the hospital at the time so we don't really know what went down, just that one of the wounded got up and walked away after suffering serious injuries.
In the end we finish processing what scavenge we had gathered and we began to open crates.
We still aren't done yet, but what little we have scavenged from the crates is interesting.
Hopefully we'll pick up some more ammo and anti machine rifles.
