Take no hostile action toward life forms until intent and capabilities are determined, or a life form takes hostile action first.  We require information and repair.  These beings may be able to provide both.  In addition, we have limited ability to defend ourselves, and don't know what threat these creatures present as individuals, nor how plentiful their kinds are.

I disagree as well. I suggest we simply scan the life form and determine if it is the creator life form. We've not been directed to destroy non-matching life after all. Its entirely possible we're worked up about a random deer analogue.
