Can something "explode in gore"?
« on: November 07, 2012, 07:40:41 pm »

If it's obvious, don't hate me. I've seen people joke around about dwarves and their body parts exploding, but I've never seen it. Can it happen if something hits one that hard? (Or one hits something that hard)?

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

"Exploding into gore" is how dropping creatures large distances used to be described.  A troll that took a tumble down 10 z-levels would literally burst into bloody gibs, some of the body parts flying upwards almost as high as the initial fall.  Larger creatures would explode at shorter heights, smaller creatures at higher ones.

I believe this latest version changed fall damage mechanics, so we may or may not have those gore explosions.  I have since stopped using dodge-me pit traps, so I don't really know.

No, it was literally a combat message you could get back in 40d and earlier if enough damage was inflicted.

It explodes in gore!
