6. pivole (?)
7. Jordrake
8. Varnifane Village Matlikot, “Bendinked”
9. Gind
10. Mo3636
11. Brewster
!!Rules!!

1. You must embark on the EXACT same spot as everyone else.

2. You may use whatever embark kit you can come up with but you MUST belong to the faction 'Feral Mansion'.

3. Provide everyone with clear and interesting updates about what you're planning and current events in your world.

4. No DFhack, I've already made sure the area provided has a few metals and there should be no reason to use it.

5. No removing of trade squares in order to steal goods, try to keep the use of other bugs limited to 0 as well.

6. HAVE FUN !!

7. All utilities are allowed, however aside from utilities you MUST use vanilla Dwarf Fortress.

8. TILESETS ARE OKAY METRUPTION!!!

9. Note that you may play the same map as us but unless you are included in the list of names you should not be posting about your experiences in game here. This is so that we may have a relatively organized thread. You may however request that you be added to the list and you could be added based on a few variables. The main idea is that we want a limited group so it's not just a big globby mess of people talking about their games rather than actually playing the little competition we've established.

Here is the map...

I'd enjoy joining this, but I've got a few questions.

Are we starting pre-embark with guidance on where to embark, so we all get to pick our own starting supplies and skills, even our own names for our fortresses, but make sure to end up in the identically placed and sized location for our forts?

When you say competition in the post name, and 'compare progress' in the body of the post, which are you leaning towards?  'Freeflowing stories and details/differences compared' more, or 'here's a list of goals, now race towards them'?

You didn't specify vanilla DF or any of the many mods, so I am guessing that you're thinking vanilla DF for this?  (not that I'm opposed to mods, myself)

As to your preferences, I'm perfectly happy to have no aquifer (or a mixed biome including an aquifer-less mountain or something as well as areas with aquifer), and I like access to some sort of metal just fine  ;)

If you're hoping for newish players join this, you might want to lean away from starting on an evil place... some of those are darn challenging.  I assume you've read of vile syndrome bearing rains and endlessly reanimating undead...  That said though, for all I suspect it will lessen the number of less experienced players who join us and might stop many of us cold who start, if you want evil for this (at least for our first (few?) attempts to get this off the ground, I'm game.  But I'm game for something a little less likely to be a bad starting hand too.  And it's true that not ALL evil places are luck and a sprint underground that's likely to fail or there go all the starting seven.

I'd be up for this. I agree that we need more specs though.

Need more information on what all the ground rules are.

-Are evil biomes allowed?
-Do we run identical embark setup, use the default embark, or devise our own embark setup?
-At what point does the competition end? If given no limit, it could go on for a -very- long time.

And a very important question: What skill level are you expecting people to compete in? Give us a skill rating from Novice to Master (or some similar approximation).

Okay first off thanks for the great replies! I tend to get too excited about these sorts of things and the fine details skip my mind.

1. Biome is up for suggestions, i was hoping somethimg evil with perhaps dashes of neutral where new players might choose to settle. (Keep in mind we're going to have the exact same embark down the the 6x6 or so that we choose.)

2. As far as embark kit goes I think this is all pwrt of player preference and you should embark with whatever you want to, there's already a limit in place so no one can just embark with everything under the sun anyway.

3. I personally would like to use the most recent version of vanilla Dwarf Fortress.

4. All skill levels are entirely welcome. I my self would be categorized as a fast-learning novice. We should take into account that there will be multiple skill levels involved, we should try to find an embark with 2 biomes or so. One of these should be evil savage and the other neutral savage. In my opinion aquifers should be turned off and we should have a river or sea for the water supply.

5. I think I worded this wrong as a 'competition' in the title, I was thinking that every few days we would update what is going in in our forts through a post here and we could compare progress and discuss our in-game events. This won't so much be competitive as much as it will be comparative. It will be a sort of lets play together and see who does what.

If anyone has anything else in mind just post it, at the moment I think we should be looking for unique sites for us all to play on.

Sorry in advance for any mega typos or absences of grammar, I am posting from a phone.

Two more things.

1. I don't really have an end in mind, stop playing when your fort dies out or when you get tired of playing with us I suppose.

2. If I wasn't clear before we will embark on the exact same spot down to the amount of tiles, 6x6 or so I think. With our embark setup (fortress name, items, dwarf skills, etc) we can do whatever we please.

6x6 or so)

While I love big embarks, they take most computers to a crawl as the years pass.  Including mine.  For that reason, I highly recommend smaller than 6x6.  I can usually run a 5x5 very comfortably for several years... speak up guys if you'd like to join but know that you need a smaller start.

an embark with 2 biomes or so. One of these should be ...

I absolutely love playing on fairly flat regions that include mountainous terrain (there are a few low mountains, or higher mountains that are surrounded by flatter land) and some intermix of any type of forest and maybe any type of other terrain too, with a nice brook.... though of course I'm not insisting on any of these details.  A wide mix of biomes, to vary the sorts of visitors that we get over time can be fun.

It sounds like you are leaning towards creating a world with high savagery, I'd recommend no larger than a medium sized world for the ease of distributing the starting save.  We can also do a high mineral setting if you like, to ensure that we have that metal you spoke of  ;)

I'm perfectly okay with 5x5 but nothing smaller. I'm trying my hand at world creating right now, I'm not adept with it by any means though and it may be best if someone else creates the world. I was thinking savage with some unique features like caves/volcanoes/towers etc as well as perhaps a mixed biome between evil and neutral with shallow/deep metals and no aquifers. I'm okay with freezing/scorching as well!

Let me know if you find a good spot! I can start this when ever.

When I get home tonight, if no one else does before then, I'll play with world genning.  Will be about 10 hours from now before I have anything to offer.

Trying to find a spot at the moment, I managed to put together a decent world. Hopefully by the time you get home I can find a spot and we can begin starting this. I'd like to have 3 or 4 of us to start with around 6-10 max. Some may be able to join later seeing as how this is more comparative rather than competitive.

I've got the world setup guys!! Now I just need some help uploading it, I think I even have the location. (Temperate Freshwater Swamp Calm/Temperate Conifer Forest Haunted)+clay/verydeepsoil/shallow/deep/flux.

How does one go about sharing worlds with others?
