After feeding we should try to evolve the ability to harmlessly harbor virulent bacteria.  In a sewer there's plenty of filth around to pick some up, and a disgusting filthy bite that infects and turns the blood septic could allow for hit, run, and track killing that minimizes risk to self, like a komodo dragon.  We could take down bigger prey with smaller energy expense.

At the current rate, we'll starve to death while waiting for our prey to die.

this is not a suggestion yet, but i think a priority might be developing the ability to create fat deposits, so that we can maintain nourishment for longer, enabling us to actually do stuff

Ah, yes, the Komodo dragon...nice memories linked to that great lizard. Even without that, approve.

Well we do have to eat too often right now.  But if we can mortally wound something big, then find some snacks and/or explore for resources, then come back later and have a huge feast of carrion, we'll be in good shape.  Imagine the energy and the sensory abilities in a delicious bloodhound...

Would the dna of a rat really help us develop the offensive abilities of a komodo dragon?

We probably ingested some harmful bacteria from the water (Hope that doesn't bite us in the ass) and it's possible that rats are decent disease carriers.

We should really stop creating a backlog and really start deciding how not to starve to death and/or do anything without having to spend every second turn foraging for food.

Well, Komodo dragons aren't the only critters that have deadly bacteria in their saliva. They're just the only ones to use it.

Sounds like a plan!

Where there's a cool, dark, wet place, there's fungal growth soon enough.  We might be able to digest that.  Scrape slimy surfaces for mold/lichen/etc?
