How fast before 3G networks detect you went over the limit?
« on: October 08, 2012, 09:33:12 pm »

Hey there. I want to preload X-COM before it comes out tomorrow but until tomorrow I'm using a crappy 3G mobile internet that has a fair use policy of 10gb even though it's unlimited. Since I'm not going to be using it come tomorrow, I was wondering if it was possible for me to rush download X-COM before abandoning it. Of course, if the network instantly detects and throttles the connection, it's gonna be pretty pointless for me since I'd end up wasting all the extra bandwidth for an incomplete download (it's 12GB for X-COM), and have to redownload the whole thing when it comes out tomorrow on my actual wifi connection.

So, does anyone know if you get detected instantly? Anyone with any experience with this?

I don't think a preload of a game can be paused and continued with the full release download.

Normally internet fair use policies are actually divided by the day, so you'd probably get to a few hundred MB before being throttled.

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

It was instant. :P

They even shut down all connections to Steam too after I went over. So I could do everything (albeit super slowly) but Steam didn't function at all.
