I have some levisium as well. What does that alloy with?

Levitite is the ore of Levisium, and smelted that just makes green copper.

Levisium itself can be alloyed as part of bronze to make Verdant Bronze, which is slightly weaker but lighter than bronze. Makes pretty good armor. It can also be used when making Steel to make Shimmersteel, again very slightly weaker but much lighter than normal Steel.

Huh. Do I need multiples of each or will one of each work? Cause I have a steel bar sitting in the stockpile.

It has to be used during the creation process. So to make shimmer steel you'd need to have iron and levisium. Plus whatever else the method of steel making you're using takes. Verdant Bronze, similarly, takes Copper, Tin, and Levisium.

Unless you're using a Blast Furnace, a single bar of Levisium is all you need.

The Militia grabbed thier weapons and head out to face the insects. Many who looked upon them were filled with unbridled fury as the death of Nightfire came to mind. “These dregs drew the blood of our kin, so let us show them true dwarven fury!” Wax bellowed as he lead the charge, striking the lead pikebug in the body and tearing it away with his bright red pick. Corai charged past at the next, slashing at the bug but being blocked and grappled by the one of the bug's spare arms, which he quickly sliced off. In a fit of screeching rage the xelic swatted Corai to the ground with the haft of his pike, only for Skull to come leaping over Corai to bring his own blade down on the xelic, who blocked yet a again and began exchanging blows with the dwarf. Meanwhile, Mona took the head off her opponent, blocking her opening thrust and ending up with a pick sent through her chin and tearing away her head. Corai in this time got to his feet and swung at the dueling one-armed pikebug. “Ya gotta work harder than that if you wanna put me out of a fight!” He bellowed angrily as he smashed his shield into the bug's head, startling Skull. “Sorry Skull, the overgrown cockroach got under my skin is all.” “LESS TALKING. MORE KILLING!” Mantis commanded, kicking a dead pike bug off her falcion. There were still two other, one of whom was battleing Wax, and another facing off against Slade and Osprey.

Osprey rushed at the foul man-bug and swiped at it with his iron dagger, but was blocked and batted in the arm with a pike. Not to be deterred, Osprey charged but was grabbed and thrown into the bamboo shoots around them. Slade attacked as it did so, hoping to get an opening but his scourge missed completely, kicking up dirt and grass and getting him punched in the face. “Come on you son of a bitch!” Osprey said ina challenge. The xelic only screeched at him. “Osprey, follow my lead, ready?” Slade said, and Osprey nodded. The Xelic got ready, not knowing what they had planned. Suddenly Slade charged and lashed at him with his scourge and the xelic instinctivly brought his pike up to block it, only to have the scourge tangle around and the dwarf to grin under his helmeted, beared covered face and pull his pike downward. At this moment, Osprey charged forward and slashed into the xelic's upper body, taking advantage of his confusion and stabbing both of his left arms before yanking his brightsilver dagger out and slamming the balde intot he pikebug's shoulder and pulling him forward, where Slade let go of his scourge, grabbed the bug by his neck and in unison with Osprey, slammed his dagger in the freak's head. The fight ended when Mona stole Wax's kill and decapitated the last pikebug.

After all was said and done, the ambush party was dead, and signs of a second unaccounted for. A pair of bushtit folk were unfortunately killed in the crossfire of the fighting, Skull admiting in the confusion of the melee, saw one land and charged it, thinking it was a xelic. As they began clean up, a shrill cry of a dying zephyre alerted the others, who came and saw Wax pulling his pick out of it's chest. “What? He was trying to get into my pockets.” Suppenly xelic cries heralded another ambush, and Osprey was alone against an entire macebug squad. [Enter Osprey, AKA daggering badass in a martial trance.]

Osprey was shocked by what he saw, a bunch of macebugs screeching at him startled. One of them, evidently the leader pointed and said something in his bug-speak. Suddenly the squad charged him and Osprey, on instinct drew his daggers and suddenly the world seemed to slow down. He charged forward, parrying a flail strike and slicing this particularly scrawny xelic in half at the waist. The next swung at him and he dodged effortlessly as its flail kicked up dirt. Osprey stabbed it in the arm, elbowed aside it's shield and drove his dagger into the side of it's head, the body flopping listlessly into the pond they were beside when he yanked the knife out. Suddenly the two guard beetles came barreling into the fight, one biting the leader of the squad in half. One of the two survivors shouted something that sounded like 'Hammerchapions' and the two rushed the beetle, only to have Stockadeball plow into one and the beetle, christened Hammerchampions, to rip both in half. It took nearly a day to clean up the overall mess. However a sudden squaking of alarm from their kestral and falcon alerted them to yet another ambush party.

“No rest for the wicked.” Mantis said, drawing her falcion. Once more the militia assembled and charged the enemy. Corai got in the lead of the group this time, their peregrine falcon's pestering distracting the leader, a lasherbug, long enough for Corai to get the first swing in, slicing off an arm. He went in to stab it in the head, but it blocked the strike returned an awkward swing which crack the chitin-plate of his shirtsleeve. Usi moved and when it threw up a shield expecting a strike, he instead hooked the shield and pulled it forward, where Corai managed to land a thrust that went in an eye and out the back of the xelic's head. Two macebugs rushed forward and were tackled, one by Mantis, Hammerhead biting the hand of one of the xelic instinctively, the other by Mona who rolled off the stunned cretin so Corai could deliver a killing blow, swiping his blade through the bug's midsection and rending him in twixt. Wax as usual, spoke archaic speech as he tore through two of the mace bugs like a pick through soil. Mantis finished the battle with several brutal blows with her falcion's pommel, which mor eor less reduced the xelic's head to bloody paste. “No rest yet everyone Back to the main gate. There's probably more in the area.” Mantis said, pointing to the corner where they came from with her blade.

There's no rest for the wicked it seems.

[Yup, much badass levels taken though as usual i included some artistic flourish. This one's all blood and guts folks. Enjoy.]

I'm honestly suprised. I never have soldiers fight this well. But given that the Battleminers seem to always carry the fight usually, I guess that's why: I never send my miners unless I need the added muscle. And I also found our why I couldn't find Nightfire's body. Poor little guy bled out in the snatcher's bag. I also feel like something's off. The minimap has the red indicators that something is up on the hill, but I don't want to send anyone up to look.

On a different note, I'm pleased with Osprey and the guard beetles' performance. Especially Hammerchampions. I mean come on, how badass of a name is that?

Since I'm not doing industrial scale mining rock is kind of a commodity right now. I need to keep the battleminers topside where they can assist ina fight so usually Mattock is the only one typically available for mining. I also just wanna pay my respects to the dead, especially the xelics who've been clothing my people with every battle death they suffer. :P

It's also a matter of logistics. with the drop rates changed I get screwed more often than not with stone unless I go overkill on mining. Wood however in plentiful, renewable, yields one for one instead of one for four or more swings and pisses off the tree humpers with every use.

Ok, so I don't need two of each then?

Sorry, forgot to answer this earlier.

You should only need a single Levesium bar. Depending on the alloy you're trying to make, you will probably need more than 1 of the base metal. Verdant Bronze, for instance, takes 1 Levisium, 1 Tin, and 4 bars of copper and returns 6 bars of Verdant Bronze.

Shimmersteel takes either 1 Iron, 1 Pig Iron, and 1 Levesium or 2 Iron and 1 Levesium depending on whether you're doing pattern welding or crucible. Either way you get 3 bars of shimmersteel.

Good to know.

In update news, a snatcher tried to take Wren.

read that again. Tried to take Wren. As in Mona the Battleminer's child.

Mona the ACTIVE BATTLEMINER. Who also had the rest fo the milita next to her.

I don;t think I need to go into how badly it ended for the xelic.
