So my first FB on a new fortress was a blob made of vomit that died on its own for some random reason. But due to the material and creature type, I paid no mind to it. Then I got a second FB about 10 minutes later, a bird of some sort, that disappeared when I was not looking.

So since he could come up through the fortress did he get bored and leave?
Maybe he went deeper down where I have discovered and he went off my unit list?

Well anyway I know have to deal with a minatuar.

I'm not certain that kobold was what we refer to as a forgotten beast.... He might have been something else entirely...

Yep, he was. But it was shown as "THE KOBOLD (name) HAS COME! BLA BLA DESCRIPTION".

It may have been killed while you weren't looking.  I had a group (flock?) of cave swallow people shoot down a forgotten beast in a cavern I hadn't yet fully explored.

I don't know if FBs are the same but I had a dragon walk off the map after I turtled up my fortress

It actually came back about 15 minutes later and hit a cage trap this time

I have had titans leave the topside map before (and then return later, prompting a new announcement of the same critter) but I don't recall losing any cavern-bound FBs.  They do sometimes die to the indigenous life down there.
