Just a general wise advice

Create a Dropbox folder if you don't have it. Play DF there.

I'm not kidding. Not only can you play the game on several different computers, it can also save your ass entirely. My computer crashed during a save on my long-time ongoing fortress; I couldn't reload the game again, and I had my backup saves turned off.

But since I was playing with the game installed on my Dropbox folder, I just went to the Web, reloaded the previous version of the world.sav file on my current region's folder, and everything was well again.

I'm serious: Play DF on Dropbox. Your 45-hour old fortress will be glad you did.

Welcome to Murdermachines. Try the gecko sauce; it's delectable and delightful, a wonderful blend of savory and spicy that makes any dish delicious without being too overwhelming.

(Warning: Do not ask about the manufacturing process for gecko sauce)

Using autosave is better protection for crashes then automatic backup of files. It means your back up will be more recent.

Also, a crash corrupting your save should be rare.

Yes, I have put my DF to dropbox as well. It works very well for sharing amongst computers and archiving old fortresses when you retire older version.

It would sound way less rude if you googled it and did not ask...

I only ever use my Dropbox for syncing my courseworks. This is an intriguing idea. Might even be useful for community forts, though that could lead to conflicted copies.

Any form of cloud storage would work. You can use gmail, create a new email, attach the save (zipped), then save it to drafts. The attachment will be there, and you can delete an old attachment and add a new one as you like.

Or just use a USB stick. I think that's easiest.

I use it to keep all of my mods nice and backed up and worked-on-able.

I put DF in my dropbox, but it did not survive the landing. Hmm. Perhaps those scared looking civilians have a laptop, that I can confiscate.

I've already done that (except I use Google Drive instead of Dropbox), it's really useful for those who play the same fort on several computer.

I use it to sync other game's saves as well. Just move all your save folders to your Dropbox/Google Drive folder and put symbolic links in their original location.
