Mini-forges, how DO you play with them?
« on: September 17, 2012, 08:49:51 am »

Okay, playing with toy weapons, boats and puzzleboxes seems simple enough, but how in the world can one play with a mini-forge? Does he just grab some leftover ore and make tiny bars for his vermin pet?

You can hit the little hammers and pretend you're forging a little serrated disk :)

Of course. Just like a mini-oven. I played with tin and molds and stuff when I was a kid. They could too.

Being like a toy oven makes sense, but I always pictured it as being a bit like a toy steam engine. My grandpa has one somewhere, the kind of thing which they wouldn't sell so much anymore on account of the searing hot water and metal involved.
Except instead of boiling water, magma and molten metal.

Toy steam engines are like toy ovens too? Or wait, do toy ovens not actually heat stuff?

As far as i can think it's an entire yet non working forge workshop scaled down considerably to be used as a playset not unlike those sold by Matell or Hasbro.

Now we need human/dwarf blacksmith figures and a puppet show "My Dwarven Blacksmith: Metalworking is Legendary."

I'd watch it.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I don't even tin. Or zinc. So I had to use aluminum.

The project results were four lumps with a lump on them, one semi-recognizable casting of a 2x2 Lego brick and two interestingly-shaped outtakes (a flat scratchy sheet from pouring onto our concrete driveway pad and a really smooth drop from pouring the glob directly into a bucket of water). The drop has a crumpled back so if you put it on an electric bug zapper it gently wobbles back and forth and sends off a shower of sparks.

I also melted the nickel off a 2003 dime, leaving behind an awesome steel dime. The American dime ended up being hollow copper or something because it got a huge air bubble in the middle. Next up: aluminum-plating the steel dime.

Nah, they're fully functional, except tiny and don't actually power anything. Except a wheel on the side or somethin, never seen one working since it was rusted to shit.

I wonder if anyone's been able to mod in toy desire for dwarven children yet.

I forgot to mention how I am puzzled why the broker from Boatmurdered loves mini-forges so damn much.

Meanwhile, I imagine dorf-made mini-forges can actually set things on fire if mishandled played by elves.

I sort of imagine them to be something akin to the Easy-Bake Oven that I totally didn't used to love when I was little.
