Back on topic: What games would give me a creative outlet similar to how DF does?

No one on the iOS is smart enough to do what Toady has done.

And if not, is there some program that would let me pre-design things for DDF and see them in 3D?

Actually, as long as it was halfway-decent, included a bit of creativity not originating from Toady, and was free, I might buy it.

I have the free mobile version of Minecraft. It has failed to impress me, and you can't save.

I have a Xoom, and I'm having the same problem: there is nothing that really catches the essence of DF to play on any mobile device. I have such high expectation coming from DF that nothing can ever satisfy me. I've tried the few roguelikes and they are decent at best (and I'm assuming this is not the type of game you really want to play... more along the lines of making a fort and controlling drunk dwarves...)

The only creative game that HAS kept me playing on my tablet sporadically is Minecraft. I picked it up months ago for 99 cents when GooglePlay was having a sale, else I wouldn't have bought it for $6 or whatever it is. Recent updates have really enhanced gameplay, and I actually kind of find it enjoyable (whereas when I bought, I thought what a waste of money it was...) It provides me that calm, exploratory, building experience I loved. Now that I have gotten used to the controls, I really like it.

For $6 (or whatever it is now) would I recommend it? No, not yet. But in the future it may really be a great game to play on a tablet. If you got it on sale, or still have it and haven't played in a while, I'd suggest going back to it and seeing how much you can actually do now.
