Have your Hero organize your hunting parties into smaller, more efficient groups, and lead them personally, assigning his most trusted companions to help (still the same total amount of hunters). Tell the villagers that you would like to honor those who have fallen to the slender man somehow; they don't deserve to be left on the ground. ((what are our practices when it comes to the dead??)) Ask elders to learn what they can from the hunters about the forest creatures. Why were there more fish when the land beasts left? ((might be getting a bit too basic. I'm assuming they know, but haven't really thought about the WHY))

Do note that the penalty to hunting and bonus to fishing were a one-time thing (event rolls). They will be gone by winter even if you don't do anything about them.

Ditto.
Also, assign any spare people to tool making / firewood making.

I'll help :D

Animals run from hunters. Why not push them into danger? Dig out the side of one of the hills, while digging line the bottom and slope with smooth rocks from the stream for them to slip down to their deaths, and drag the biggest logs and branches around to make natural barriers surrounding where the hunters will push them through. This should be easy enough for them to understand.

But why? The Old Ways have served us well enough, and why waste precious firewood with the winter coming.
~An example argument against that, by a. tribesman.
We can't just tell them to advance, they have to learn. I think.

You can tell them to let the animals run into other hunters. That is pretty easy.

So, can I get some numbers to crunch how many people do what? Would be helpful.
(remember, gathering is a no-no this round and you need the double amount of firewood this time.)

Suggestion: we could send pretty much all of the tribe for firewood, with only a few hunting. We should have enough food to last.
This is risky though.
