Empires of Sorcery (potential MoM successor) Kickstarter
« on: September 03, 2012, 11:10:25 am »

Empires of Sorcery is an attempt at a Master of Magic successor by indie company Lucid Dreamers. It is currently in the beginning stages of kickstarter. The videos on the kickstarter page look pretty basic, but the programmer has begun work on the project and does have gameplay to show.

Another MoM-like is good imo. Looks promising and it will be interesting to see how the kickstarter goes.

Using the D20 system and citing how balanced it is is like developing for DOS and citing how modern it is.

Psh. Next you're going to say that my MMORPG entirely based on 1st Edition grappling rules isn't cutting edge.

Undead as a playable race. This is what the world has been waiting for. Yes, a few games have already tried it, but we feel their implementations have been lacking something. We intend to go to the greatest lengths to make the Undead Experience fit seamlessly into the world we're creating and provide something unique, compelling, and most of all, FUN!
:D RTS and 4x need more undead as playable faction the only really good one is Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne so i'll put some money for this.

I've got a feeling with this one, a kind of nameless sense that this one won't make it.  A lot of high-work unlimited rewards and starting the all-previous-rewards thing early might be part of it.  These guys are going to be swamped if the game takes off big.

On the plus side, their goal seems eminently reasonable for what they're presenting.

I know I am not one to criticise the game on graphics

But that only counts for Technical graphics... Artistically something about this looks very bland and kinda ugly.

Whatup, just cloning one of the best games of all time on a shoestring budget, no biggie.

I kinda hope they rework the graphics.
The terrain is not fluid in my eyes. Even compared to MoM where two mountain titles nearby formed a mountain range ETC.
Here i'ts just 2 identical mountain titles and that's it. Gameplay wise it's the same but aestetically fluid terrain features just look way better.

It seems I am buying all of my games 1-3 years in advance now.

It used to be that you paid for a finished product. Then there was a shift to paying for a beta. Then an alpha.

Now we pay for the concept art and UI design mock-ups.

When we can charge just for design concepts is when I will start making money :) (guess I could just get back into consultancy)

Mostly ptw, not sure I want to donate to this just yet but I'd certainly like a good, and ideally pretty, MoM clone/successor.

I wish them the best, but I'll be waiting for reviews/demo.  I'm happy enough to fire up the original, so the only way I'd buy a new version is if they can add one thing to a close approximation of the original game - some seriously upgraded AI.

After Elemental and how that went I think almost everyone is highly suspicious of any MOM successors.
