First Aid issues
« on: August 31, 2012, 03:50:21 pm »

I can't seem to get first aid to work.  I have a doctor with 5 first aid and I set him to heal liberals.  One of my liberals have been shot. The doctor is not meeting with anyone. They are all located at the projects, one location. The doctor isn't meeting with anyone or going anywhere. The first aid skill just does not trigger it seems.  His first aid has been at 5 forever and nobody gets healed.

Any special trick to get it to work?

Are you telling him to heal Liberals through the activites menu? If you are, you may have a glitch in your game.

your doctor must be at the same location as the injured liberal .

Healing is very behind-the-scenes, and works slowly over time. It is probably working normally.

From a time standpoint, liberal healing takes a couple months for most injuries.  It is also rather hit-and-miss, especially at the lightly-wounded level.

I think having more people heal at once makes it work faster, and I don't think the First Aid skill really changes anything at all when you rank up in it.

First aid does improve the rate of healing when the person who has it is healing others. The main benefit of first aid though is actually field medicine; when part of a squad, Liberals with first aid have a chance each round, depending on their skill, to staunch bleeding. Since bleeding is basically equivalent to the "poison" condition in other RPGs, slowly reducing health even out of combat, plus the added danger that it will actually kill, this is a huge deal. Enough first aid and you can make otherwise certain-to-be-lethal injuries survivable.

Well this doctors skill has been at 5.0 for a long time.  Would that be a good indication of how much I've been healing?

On a side note what does it mean when one of my liberals is has no body parts wounded but their overall status is wounded?

If the doctor skill hasn't gone up, it probably means your doctor is at their max skill for their attributes.  They'll need more juice so their stats go up and thus their skill can increase.

No wounded body parts is best, as "Liberal Medical Technology" often involves amputation.  It just means the person is roughed up a bit.  Bruised body, sprained bodyparts, bleeding a little from a non-vital area.  They should be better in a month.

His max is 15 actually. I've set him to heal liberals from the activate liberals menu and his skill hasn't gone up at all.  It makes me think he just hasn't been using his heal skill.

I was just using that as an example of an injury to a part that might not show up.

Although, I'd swear I've seen sprains before as actual part injuries, now that you mention it.  I think it requires the liberal to take damage from blunt sources, which are noticably rare in LCS.

Hm, in case it is a bug (wouldn't be the first time healing liberals was bugged), what version are you using?

One final question, have you been using your doctor in site actions since you set him to heal?  Doctors can't heal other liberals while on site actions.  Although, liberals with medical skills usually, but not always, are automatically set to heal other liberals if they are not told to do anything else, so I sort of doubt that sending the doctor off on site actions is the problem.

I am using version 4.04.0. Hopefully the most recent version.  I gave up and sent the shot guy to the hospital.  I think he was losing stats because of it.  But yeah, the doc was completely inactive, not meeting anyone to convince them to join the squad or going anywhere. The only thing that confused me was his first aid wasn't going up at all.

Questions,

1) If I want to heal a particular person, do they need to be out of a squad?

2) do the people I'm healing have to be inactive?

I think this is just a glitch at this point.

I *think* the liberal wounded needs to be inactive (aka not going on site actions) but can be in a squad.  Generally, being in a squad is more organizational than anything (I don't think it affects anything other than who goes on site actions).

By the way, what were the injuries of your shot liberal?  You should still be able to see by looking at (r)eview liberals, then selecting Hospital, then selecting the liberal see their detailed injuries.
