Push down/ smash ladders and direct fire towards goblins holding ladders. If there aren't any ladders on the wall at the moment, fire arrows.

(Why am I thinking of Stronghold?)

If the goblins have archers, the the archers we have should be trying to kill them. Samuel "Markus" Gress should be on hacking up ladders duty.

Spoiler: OOC (click to show/hide)

The goblin horns sound, they let out a thunderous roar and charge towards the walls. You quickly yell at the archers around you to concentrate fire on the ladder-holding goblins. They rain arrows down around the ladders, you see quite a few greenskins go down. The other archers start to catch on and soon most of the men on the wall are shooting at the ladder-goblins.

You stick an arrow in a brazier and then try to shoot it. You burn your hand a little bit and the fire is blown out as soon as you shoot it. You think the arrow fell short anyway. (In order to get a real flaming arrow going, you'll probably need something that burns better than a wooden shaft)

You fire at the ladder-goblins. You think you see your second shot hits a goblin's shield. The third shot hits a goblin in the chest and he goes down. As he falls, he pulls the ladder down with him. However, several other goblins around help to pick it up. You fire again, but you seem to have missed.

The goblins are nearly to the wall. Many of them pull out crossbows and start to return fire. The humans are well protected behind the ramparts, but you see at least a few take hits. The archers are now dividing their attention between the ladders and the crossbow-goblins.

You see a ladder being raised towards the wall right next to the gatehouse. You hurry down to help. Several men try to push it off, but they can't get enough leverage. You fire an arrow down, hitting one of the goblins holding the base. Some of the rag-tag militia run up the stairs to help. One of the farmers uses his pitchfork as leverage to shove the ladder sideways. Without the goblin holding that side of the ladder, it slides off the wall and crashes into another ladder being raised next to it. You see several boards splinter, both of those ladders are out of commission. This is going well!

You and the other archers and peasants hold them off for about an hour. You push many ladders off the walls and you're starting to accumulate a good pile of dead goblins at the base of the wall. You've personally killed at least 7 with your bow. You grab another handful of arrows, you notice that the bins are around half empty (or half full, if you want to be annoyingly optimistic about things).

Suddenly, you notice that another ladder has been raised off to your left, and the men can't push it off in time. Several goblins are up on the wall! You also see about 20 goblins carrying a large beam towards the gate. They must have ripped it out of the town hall and are planning on using it as a battering ram! The armored guards are already starting to brace the portcullis with whatever they can.

Suddenly, you're not sure that this is going well. What do you do?

Get some fire on the goblins with the ram, and busy yourself removing the goblins and their ladder from the wall.

Get some professional archers to shoot at the ramgobs with flaming arrows. They might have been given some cloth or something to light arrows with.

We should concentrate on the goblins that are currently on the wall, don't want the better archers to die.
