****INTRODUCTION****

Well, hello everyone, near and far. Welcome to my first attempt at a community fortress game. Now just to clarify this isn't a succession thread. It'll pretty much be all me playing here. However my plan is to give any who wish a named Dwarf as well as following any requests/ideas, crazy or not that people come up with. So with a little bit of luck and participation from the forum goers, we can potentially make this a fun game worth remembering.

****Fencedboot****

I sat across the table from the Dwarven Explorer's Guild guildmaster with some feeling of trepidation. Upon the map of the known world were 4 locations circled, previously surveyed for potential valued minerals to return to the mountainhomes. There was only one problem: They were buried under some of the most uninhabitable wastelands this side of the Continents of Mirth. Me being one of the most green members of the guild it fell to me to tame one of these horrific lands for the glory of our king. Such is a prospector's life, I suppose. I was quickly assigned a ragtag group of fellow guild members of varying professions and backgrounds, and made to decide on which spot of land would be our future home...

(Now here is the first thing I'm going to attempt with you guys. I've generated the world already but have not chosen an embark location. This is where you come in. I've taken screenshots of various potential !!fun!! locations to embark to that I'm giving you guys the privilege to do decide on where we go in this thread, as well as a printout of the full world map. As these screenshots are taken in a maximized screen I'll be providing the links only, rather than with image tags. As my group of fellow guild mates, we shall come to a decision on the best place to start our fortress at. Also if you have a better suggestion than using my Photobucket account for hosting screenshots, please let me know.)

I'll take a dwarf. A female named Kate, the military dwarf sounds good, which may mean an early death for me, but who knows. I'll leave the weaponry and skills decisions up to you.

Alright, that still leaves a few other slots, as well as us deciding on the most interesting embark point. Though if nobody can choose I'll probably eventually randomly pick one.

I'll be keeping track of the votes and see how many others end up interested in this thread.

Might as well join when I can.

Dorf me, Male, miner.

I would prefer the Tundras of Disembowling.

Oh, and if tundra is selected, you might want to rethink the two carpenters/woodworkers.

Also do you plan to bring a broker and/or bookkeeper at embark?

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

Perhaps one carpenter for the bed making if that's the case. If it ends up being Tundra that extra slot can be filled with the manager/bookkeeper easily enough. So that's two for Tundra.

Hmm, not too many seem to be particularly interested for the moment, would you guys prefer to just go as is?

Give it another day or two, as it looks like you have given people only given people about 5 hours.

Wee fledgling topics often don't even have a full page in that amount of time.

Yes, perhaps you're right.

I'll take a male miner. Also the  Cerulean Swamps sound nice. And when things hit the very large steel fan, can I be in some sort of medical profession?

Absolutely. So that's a vote for Cerulean Swamps then. And a possible doctor in the future.
