Now they just have to invent power armor and a few advances in biotech and we could have Spartans!

And then Kim Jong-un was a Spartan. The shortest Spartan.

Now they just have to invent power armor.

The French have beat the Americans in the development race for the new future soldier system, they already have around 20,000.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Look at dem pauldrons. British will follow up with 35,000 of their own FIST systems (lol) whilst the Americans have been slowed down somewhat by their cancelling the Land Warrior program in 2007 and then restarting it. Eh, the British'll just lend the Americans their design if they really have to, plus I hear something's going on between Russia and France over their system.

*Oh yeah the bulletproof kneepads are there to protect the knee from arrows and the like. A bullet to the leg can be saved, a bullet to the knee is usually fatal. The more you /know.

Wait, why do they need vibrators?

To avoid concussion. The more you /know.

[Also French].

Wait, fatal? I knew they were usually pretty crippling, but why fatal?

I don't know. Why else have bulletproof kneepads and not much else? The French are onto something here.

Not shiny enough to be power armor.

Needs bulletproof visor. For faceless slaughtering. Bonus points if it's retractable so that Spartan can retract it if it's filled with bullet cracks and keep fighting.

...I think I'll have to listen to Hansvice on this one, and say that's just too silly to work in the modern world.

Ah, but the trick is that for every one soldier in shiny power armor that you do see, there are nine with very good camouflage that you don't.  :P

So something interesting: http://www.businessinsider.com/anarchists-bomb-scientists-like-ted-2013-3
Basically it's a group of specifically anti-nanotech (though also science in general) anarchists who have supposedly been killing/threatening scientists and/or planting bombs.

Violent morons who read too much hack sci-fi and take it as truth, methinks. Grey Goo is impossible.

Yaaay, let's prohibit further scientific development! It's bad for you!
*comes down with incurable disease*
I'm sorry, sir, but we just don't have the technogy to cure you. The only way is with nanotechnology, and that's been banned by some organization.
