Uh oh...
« on: August 15, 2012, 07:28:46 pm »

My hammerer was just posessed and took over our carpentry workshop. He requests tree... life and cloth... thread but I have no such things, at least that's apparent so far. I am prepared to wall him in, let him die and make another workshop but that might cause a tantrum spiral as he has a lot of friends and throws lots of parties. Time is of the essence, what do I do?

Trees are moderately easy, as long as you have an axe and a pick (if you need to dip into the caverns).

Cloth procurement may be more difficult. Silk might be available in the caverns, you might be able to gather pig tails or rope reeds to process into plant cloth, but if you don't have any animals to shear for their wool you can't get it except through trade.

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Lock all doors, and wait. Someone, anyone should survive, probably no more than 10-20 dwarves.

Seal everyone who you can in the rooms they are in and let them kill each other. A handful should stay alive or calm down and be able to continue running the fort (ie. crafting coffins for the next few seasons ;) ) until the next migrant wave (which will most likely be big). As an extra benefit, the survivors will nolonger care much about anything and most of their relatives will be dead. ;D

The weredwarf Urist McUrist has come! A bearded drunkard twisted into minute form. It is crazed for booze and socks. Its unwashed beard is tangled. It needs alcohol to get through the working day and has gone without a drink for far too long. Now you will know why you fear the mines.

Et tu, Urist

I'm managing as long as I possibly can, but the dwarves will not stop throwing tantrums. So far I've had to strike down three dwarves who went berzerk. Please send help from the mountainhomes.

My dwarves are all dehydrated and the water is frozen, farmers too busy to farm or brew... I believe this is this 'fun' I've been hearing about.

Whoa, use the pause button next time, especially if you're going through a season in less than 20 minutes. We can't help with problems that have time limits if you keep playing while waiting for answers.

On the bright side, at least it wasn't !!fun!! this time. :D

Don't try and have all your dwarves do everything.  Pick the one that is the least unhappy (Dwarf theRapist is very useful for this as you get an actual number to work with, not to mention sorting) and have hir brew/farm/cook for the rest and nothing else.  Add more as you can.  Restricting activities to your fanciest rooms will also help.  e.g., drag your statues into the dining hall if you haven't already, and let the tantrumers idle there so they socialize and admire some fine tables/chairs/statues/engravings and improve their mood.

make the slab at a mason's workshop, then engrave it at a craftsdwarf workshop.

I hardly ever have cloth, but if you just dig to the cavern layer or have a farm with pig tails instead of plump helmets it's pretty easy to start a cloth industry with peasants.

Setting up a cloth industry is not that hard.

All you need is some crossbows, bolts and elven caravans.

The side products of this kind of cloth industry is a shitload crap, that you can trade for even more cloth with the other caravans.
