The metal planet(oids) are a reference to Total Annihilation, where some of the maps were massive metal compounds that made it extremely easy to harvest metal.  I do believe that the canon description of those were long ago abandoned mega-factories and whatnot.

All the same, it would be awesome to have a setting that doesn't just act like a regular planet, but can become something of a unit in and of itself.  8)

Too bad that we are BARELY getting to Waterworlds

There is no way we are going to add another 400,000 to the mix so we can have Metal Worlds.

Maybe in an expansion... if there is one.

hmm "lava planets"...

i wonder if that means too that we could rebuild on destroyed planets too...
well as it seems atm destroyed planets are kind of a "limiter", so longer battles end up in more destroyed planets = less planets to actually build from as you cant on destroyed ones with cracks and lava all over.

so maybe this allows with some limitations (i guess destroyed planets should have some disadvantage compared to not destroyed ones.) to rebuild a few specialized lava buildings back on them... and introduces starting lava planets.
well maybe "lava planet" and "destroyed planet" are totally different afterall.

Actually that is a very interesting concept for a strategy game

SURE you could have everyone turtle to death, but eventually your going to destroy all the planets.

Why so pessimistic? we are only just past half the time limit. Usually there is an outburst of funding near the end. Especially if there are good goals to reach.

"Plantary" assault will still  just be

a) crashing object A into B
b) Transporting objects from a to b

I find it unlikly that you could guide a planet to a specific position in space, so you can deliver a Broadside to a enemy planet. As awesome as that would be.

Because a planet is not a stationary thing. They move around constantly in the near-vacuum of space while revolving on their axle.
