I'm not really knowing too much about chemistry (physics for the lazy man :P), so is it legit to put acid in there?
Naming conventions aren't something I understand.

yes, as water is amphoteric, meaning it can act as an acid or a base, depending on it's conditions.
Indeed. Pure water alone will literally eat away at certain substances due to its dipole molecular structure and its zeal for bonding with things. Water with certain additives can be very caustic as well.
