No. Can't breed GCSes without modding in [CHILD]. Haven't played with modding much.
So how can you get a 'tamed' GCS? Animal trainers can only get ☼Trained☼ GCS.

And how to prevent weavers collecting those (small) spider silk in the cavern? I want an open trapped corridor for naked mole dogs.

The easiest way I can see without blocking off the caverns would be to set burrows for your weavers.  The burrows don't have to be too specific either, just don't include any of the caverns.

A recently conducted Experiment produced mixed results.

Basically this.....

Four female GCSs sequestered on nest boxes incubating eggs.  On the right is a wild boar woman in a cage, and an exit to the outside world on the left.  The intruder has to run between the spiders to escape, but there is a back-up cage trap set to recapture her if required.

Resulted in this.........

One of the females abandonned her eggs to deal with the intruder while the others spammed gobs of webs.  Naturally, it was the female sitting on the most eggs that decided to attack the boar woman.  During combat she also fired 6 webs, with one web ending up on the cage trap, (not shown in pic 2, but is visible in pic 1)

And, with the intruder dealt with.......

The female returns to her, now ruined, eggs.

Accidental stuff learned during this;
Animals will use nest boxes even if they are forbidden,
Dorfs will generate a job to collect eggs even while nest boxes are forbidden.
(Might try 'Hiding' the nest boxes next time, see if that makes a difference).

Edit:  Hiding the nest box makes no difference either; the GCS will still use it and the dorfs still collect eggs if you are not quick enough to forbid the eggs.
Also, made some mods to the experiment and learned a few new things.

New conditions:

Dug a channel to separate the GCSs from the wild boar woman test subject, GCS spammed a lot of webbing, but stayed on their nest boxes, a nice improvement.  however learned that webs can span open space and the weaver cannot collect webs 'hanging' in space.  This will require yet another change to the experiment.

In 'o'rders are 'W'orkshops orders, in it is 'w' Auto Collect Webs, you can turn it off, that can be helpful in keeping dwarves away from GCSs.
I award you the Dastot McCheesemaker Award for Outstanding Performance in Reading Comprehension.

Oh, ok, ok, don't be angry, maybe somebody don't know and have problem with wild GCS...

And now for the bad news. >:(

GCS suffer from the same condition as siege weapons - they can only target things on the same z-level.

I've tried a few different ways of testing for this, and each time the subject has been unmolested.  I've got a few more things to try but they require different test subjects, which I haven't been able to capture yet.  Guess that will have to wait.

Cheerz.

It might be [LIKES_FIGHTING] and/or [LARGE_PREDATOR] that makes a creature scare Dwarves away.
Then why do dwarves get spooked by cavies and ducks and such?

Kaos: To protect eggs, try forbidding the eggs and not the nestboxes.

OK, some further observations:

I have seen my weaver get spooked now. But I've also seen him grab webs from right next to the fortifications. So I tried to watch closely, and I think this is the deal: he's not scared of the wild animal as long as the wild animal is webbed. And it's webbed most of the time, for obvious reasons.

Also, since I have a clothing industry, people are dropping clothing everywhere. So naturally someone dropped some right next to the farm. So naturally one of my archers decided to claim it. Now I need a new rat. :(

Kaos: To protect eggs, try forbidding the eggs and not the nestboxes.

I was aware of that and under most circumstances, it is the first thing to do.  The experiment was to determine if forbidding the nest boxes was a short cut.  It would save having to watch the females and forbid the eggs as soon as they appear before being tasked with collection.  Also, it was illuminating to find out that the spiders claimed the forbidden/hidden nest boxes to start with.

New observations:
1: Only one unit of spider silk will ever exist per tile, once it is collected a new unit will have to deposited by the spider.
2: Spider silk will not 'drop' down to the next z-level if it misses a target on a walkway - caveat: still experimenting for proof, but the minimal evidence so far indicates this is true.
3: The only way to collect hanging webs appears to be building a wall under it on the z-level below - the weaver has to stand on the tile with the web to collect it.  Until then, continuous cancellation spam.

Cheerz.

I can confirm #2.

#3 can also be fixed by forbidding the floating silk...or not digging pits around your silk farm.

 confirm #2.
And also confirmed that a retreat bridge can drop the hanging web.
In order to drop the web onto cage traps, you have to 1. build the cage traps in the same level of the GCS, and build a drawbridge to protect the GCS from fun, or 2. build the cage traps in the level below the GCS, and build a retreat bridge to drop the web and to protect the GCS from flying fun.

One would think that four walls and a locked door would take care of that quite readily.

In fact, would building the nest box inside a 1x1 room with fortifications for walls allow the spider to shot web without abandoning its clutch?
