I play BF3 from time to time and yeah, power creep.

The giant ass PREMIUM ad in the center of my menu doesn't help either.

I only watched 2 of those myself and dismissed it as shit, but seeing this thread I might've just watched the nightmare ones that no one should ever see.

Edit: Nope, still dismissing them as shit. Probably partly because I really don't care that much about what they're talking about.

I can't disagree with people on this reasoning. If "Techdirt but in video monologue form and about video game industry concepts" sounds up your alley then this will be the best thing ever, but if it does not then this will suck (for you).

Maybe not as polarizing as, say, Zero Punctuation, but it's definitely not for everyone.

I'm a huge fan of game design so most of them are pretty great in my opinion.

I really don't understand this point of view. If you aren't interested in the subject matter, fine, but why does not being interested in the subject matter somehow reflect on the quality of the video(s)?

Quality depends on perception anyway (ie, it's subjective), so I guess you could just mentally append "in my opinion" to them calling it shit.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Except I wouldn't even do that. "I'm disinterested in the subject matter" and "this isn't good" are two completely different things. Does a really good math textbook all of a sudden become a bad one in the hands of someone who doesn't want to learn math?

What the hell is wrong with this guys voice? And why is he getting his infant nephew to draw the pictures? I can't even comment on the content because it's like trying to listen to someone while they grate their nails on a chalkboard and squirt lemon juice in your eyes.

Your mileage may vary.

I find it adhering endearing.
Edit: I don't know why I realized I made that typo an hour and a half after I posted it.

And the artist is actually pretty dang good.

Whats the mature opinion to hold on inter player harassment? If I recall the episode, they werent targeting, the more causual 'ripping' and giving each other, a playful amount of shit, but more along the lines of excessive harassment  and excessive vulgarity.

I think its pretty safe to say, we all kinda hate that kinda of shit.

Yeah, pretty much. It does nothing good -- doesn't help team coherancy, never gives good advice (if it's excessive, it's pretty much necessarily failed at communication, precluding any possibility of usefulness), does nothing to improve anyone's playing experience.

The person(s) indulging in it might be getting off, so to speak, but that particularly sort of belligerent verbal masturbation has little to nothing to do with the game itself. Just their own, somewhat twisted, psychology.

Not much else to say, I think.

Calling people homo's across the internet has always made me question anonymity as a whole.

I mean, anonymity is supposed to protect us right? It stops actual homosexuals from getting followed around and harassed online by people who know them (excluding facebook), but instead of anonymity stopping these kinds of things, it seems to have given people the perceived right to call anyone and anything a homosexual whether its true or not and to complete strangers.

It's sad, people aren't even homophobic RIGHT anymore.
