Getting goblins to wear less clothing
« on: August 01, 2012, 11:57:03 pm »

Is there any way I can get them maybe to come in just shirt, pants, and shoes? I'm as much a fan of Goblin Christmas as anyone, but the unrelenting item clutter fills me with sadness and rage. It also drops my fps substantially. I know I could auto-dump and atomsmash and all that...but...I hate to eliminate something with value. I'd much rather have there simply be fewer items total, and get rid of them the old-fashioned way.

No Shirt, No Shoes, No Siege!

EDIT:
In all seriousness, just remove the undesired clothes from the goblin enity.

In entity_default.txt you should see tokens like:
Code: [Select]
[ARMOR:ITEM_ARMOR_TUNIC:COMMON]
Remove the undesired ones :P

Yeah, go to raw/objects, find entity_default.txt, open, search for "goblin" and find these lines:

[ARMOR:ITEM_ARMOR_BREASTPLATE:COMMON]
   [ARMOR:ITEM_ARMOR_MAIL_SHIRT:COMMON]
   [ARMOR:ITEM_ARMOR_LEATHER:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [ARMOR:ITEM_ARMOR_CLOAK:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [ARMOR:ITEM_ARMOR_TUNIC:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [ARMOR:ITEM_ARMOR_ROBE:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [HELM:ITEM_HELM_HELM:COMMON]
   [HELM:ITEM_HELM_CAP:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [HELM:ITEM_HELM_HOOD:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [HELM:ITEM_HELM_MASK:UNCOMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [GLOVES:ITEM_GLOVES_GAUNTLETS:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [GLOVES:ITEM_GLOVES_GLOVES:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [SHOES:ITEM_SHOES_SHOES:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [SHOES:ITEM_SHOES_BOOTS:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [SHOES:ITEM_SHOES_BOOTS_LOW:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [SHOES:ITEM_SHOES_SANDAL:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [SHOES:ITEM_SHOES_SOCKS:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [PANTS:ITEM_PANTS_PANTS:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [PANTS:ITEM_PANTS_GREAVES:COMMON]
   [PANTS:ITEM_PANTS_LEGGINGS:COMMON] <<<=== delete this
   [PANTS:ITEM_PANTS_LOINCLOTH:COMMON] <<<=== delete this

This way they only wear armor, no clothing that clutters everything up. I also removed gauntlets and boots, since they are 4 items for each goblins.

Meph, offtopic but, how do you pronounce your name? Is it Mef, like the ph becomes an f?

Mephistopheles, master of lies, the great deciever, old greek for the devil. Used by Goethe in his opus magnum "Faust" to portray the christian devil.

So.. yeah, Mef. ^^ (looks horrible) Well... Mav, like from Maveric I could accept.

Also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mephistopheles

Old Greek....for the devil? I'm afraid I'm gonna have to call shenanigans on that. Old Greek doesn't have any words for the devil. Old Greek doesn't understand the concept of a "Devil"

Also, that article you linked clearly gives the etymology as "The word derives from the Hebrew mephitz, meaning "destroyer", and tophel, meaning "liar"; "tophel" is short for tophel shequer, the literal translation of which is "falsehood plasterer"" Specifically adding that "It is best explained as a purposely obscure pseudo-Greek or pseudo-Hebrew formation of Renaissance magic (referring to the sociocultural phenomenon...not actual magic. I assume.)"

But thank you! and thanks to Toxicshadow. Much obliged. Shall I have to regen for this?

Mephistopheles was one devil among many, not the devil.

Those 4 shouldn't necessarily be deleted - after all, they can still be made of metal (in addition to leather).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

HAH! Does United Airlines hijack a flight when they make a course alteration? I think not. This thread is now about goblin clothing litter AND ancient linguistics AND demonology.

Anyway, Mephistopheles was the devil himself, I had always believed? Its only D&D that seperates all the old names for Satan into different demons. And adds a bunch of actual discrete demons, of course. But Baalzebub and Mephisto are just that Old Scratch.
