Fuck this existentialist bullshit.

So yeah...MARS! Let's find out more about it, zap some rocks, drive around, etc. BECAUSE WE CAN.

Would like to have a word with you about how trivial knowledge is.

Meh, even a nihilist needs somthing to do.

I'm not saying ignorance is bliss, or being dumb makes you happy, just that not knowing is sometimes better.

Aquiring things people places knowlegde, its all just pointless; there is no goal, no nice place to go, no reason to go to space.

If I am told I'm going to grow up to do great things and be someone important and smart and talented, and I go grow up and I'm no different then the next person, have nothing to show for my knowledge, have no influence in anything that matters more then moving debt that isnt even mine around and have no practical skills to speak of... how do you think I'm going to feel about the world? How I'm going to view other people? How I'm going to view the actions of people that others have placed above me?

I value nothing, not life nor love nor money nor power over others nor fear pain or death, I would kill if it would make me the slightest bit entertained but it would not for I have killed, I do not value truth or knowlegde, men in space is simply fun for smart fools that get money from dumb people.
Why do you need a reason to go to space? I don't see why a reason is needed for anything, really. It's enough that it's something we havn't conquered yet, a new frontier. Not the final one, but the next one.

That's my response to people who ask me what the meaning of life is. Why does there need to be a meaning? We're here, let's do something, even if it doesn't matter later on. Life has no meaning, but that doesn't mean mope around the house. It means find a meaning.

I leave for an hour and you guys spend two pages arguing with a troll? For shame, Bay 12  ::)

Though the idea of an orgy in space on the way to Mars does have a certain appeal to my baser instincts :P

As I said, it is a wonderful idea, and must be attempted. Also, a good way to keep away space madness.

Hell, If I cant have real purpose, what the fuck does it matter if we're going to space or the 15 dimension?

If I cant punch a monster in the face in a life or death struggle who cares if I have food?
If I cant make a home from trees or carve out a cave to hide my children from wolves why does shelter matter?
If I live to be 112 and everyone else I know is long dead, why does living matter?
If I cant go to mars and climb a red mountain why does it even matter?

The first two you can emulate by living in the wild. No modern conveniences, no handy shelter, no supermarket to buy food at. Do battle against the lions, tigers, and/or bears.

I never understood that argument against long life. For one thing, who says that you'd be the only one to live that long? Lifespans are gradually improving and it's possible that you'll be surrounded by friends as old as you. For another thing, who says you can't make new friends to live for as you age? Be the cool old guy that everybody on the neighborhood likes.

With proper application of our knowledge (that you claim to disparage so much), you could possibly climb a mountain on Mars within your lifetime. So there's no reason not to continue our search for wisdom and knowledge.

Glorious Tom Cruse, I leave my thread to go to class for two hours and this is what I come back to?

This is a thread about the Curiosity Mission to Mars, not about your existential insecurities. If you want to talk about how objectively pointless our existence is, please do so in a separate objectively pointless thread before entropy unmakes you and humanity exists only to feel pain in your absence.

Oh well, I tried.

So who volunteers to go to Mars with a bunch of sanitary wipes for Curiosity's drill bit? Let's make this mission happen, people!

Serously though, stop replying to rarborman. He has nothing good to say about mars rovers.

I volunteer to go blow Curiousity's nose.

Where do I sign up?
