And we should be getting " high-resolution color pictures and video of the Martian landscape".

According to the g+ stream, Curiosity has a camera capable of 10 fps on it.
Quick sciencebot! Find the dong stone and move your view up and down! Mars must have happy fun time, ahahaha!

No, wait, whatamisayingohrightitisoneam. Do appropriately sciencey stuff instead, mighty sciencebot. Bring us pretty pictures and data that means nothing to me beyond "implied awesome".

So yeah; now we've got a car-sized, semi-autonomous nuclear-powered robot with a laser on another planet so far away it takes light 7 minutes to get there from here.

SCIENCE FUCK YEAH!!

Do science. With lasers.

I wonder if scientists ever stop and look at what they're doing and realize: "Holy shit. We're building a robot to send to a planet a million miles away so that it can vaporize rocks and analyze their composition."

Dude(tte), they totally, totally do. The sheer wizardry of what they do is how they manage to bull through the near infinite mind-numbing tedium and minutely varying repitition that makes up the bulk of the science magic.

Speaking of tweets, Anne Wheaton's stream (Wil Wheaton's wife) was fun. By her own insistence she isn't a nerd, just nerd adjacent. That just makes the level of geeking out that much sweeter.

EDIT: Apparently the official landing statement is: "Let's see where our Curiosity will take us."

Starting up the post-landing news conference.
Lol, that dude basically said 'America, fuck yeah!' in the most diplomatic way possible.
"There are 5 countries who have gone to Mars; I'm not going to name them, but all of them got there by going with us."

Indeed. I think I would be much more inclined to do Calculus if my equations were going to be sending robots into space to fire lasers at rocks. Y'know, for SCIENCE!
